Which one is better ? also is anyone on this forum going to the open day @ LA film school on the 31st of Jan ,2004 ?
I seriously need advice. I'm 27 years of age (yes,yes.. I'm no spring chicken!) and I'm sick of my I.T consultant job . I want job satisfaction not a dull, lifeless career! I'm actually based in England U.K, The courses offered by both schools are alot of money, therefore I want to make sure I go to the best one ( best in terms of - Instructors, Faculties, Equipment , career prospect etc ) Any advice and fisrt hand insights /experiences of these schools would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly.. Do you guys think I'm Crazy for pursuing this Dream of working in Films/TV ? I have a stable job with moderate income, but things just never seem right. The guys at work always tell me to cheer up, whilst they seem content in Office work , my minds working overtime thinking of Movies , action sequences etc. Is it too late for me ?
Cheers

errm..I meant LA Film School or should I go to NYFA( New york film academy at universal )
Ideally I would like to Direct or produce. My main project/direction is that I'm developing a T.V series to rival/challenage Star Trek Franchise ( Think Star Trek original / STNG format...Forget Enterprise!)I like Sci -Fi and Fantasy, Hell I like Hercules !!!
Do you guys think I have a better chance in T.V than Film ? Seriously I wouldnt at all mind working on a quality Sci Fi T.V series. Lastly how old are alot of you guys on this forum?

It's not a crazy/sane issue. Most of us are trying to be filmmakers for the same reason. We all got that whisper in the back of our brain one day and that was it. For that reason we're probablly not the best people to ask, because we're all going to say "Go for it" as a mechanism of re-affirming our own life-choices.
As far as the schools go: Based on my limited knowledge, the L.A. Film School seems to be the best film trade-school in the U.S. It's only a few years old, but from what I can tell they flaunt better equipment and more notable speakers/instructors than NYFA (Definately not to be confused with NYU).
I'm normally anti-tradeschool, but at 27 you probablly already have either a college degree or significant life experience. Go for it, and good luck!

Dude too late? Hell no! Go for it man! People ask the same questions about training for juijitsu and vale tudo training. They always ask if its too late and the answer is always no. Learn what you can, become self-sufficient, have a game-plan, learn from film-school, message boards, books, just grab a camera and make a movie! The key is to just start and take that first step. Hope everything goes ok for you and make that movie!

i'm going to be attending nyfa's one year program at nyc in june. i've looked into la film school...what i didn't like about it is, is that students have to choose one aspect of filmmaking. nyfa on the other hand, offers students experience in all areas of filmmaking as students write, direct, shoot and edit their own films, as well as work as crew on their classmates' films.
anyways, if anyone here is going to nyfa at nyc or HAS gone to nyfa at nyc...i'd love to hear from you.
It is never too late to do what you think is right. It is never too late to pursue a dream.
Take that coming from a philosophy major, not from an interested film student.
The people who work 9-5 in offices all day for the rest of their lives are the kind of people who history will forget, first off. Second, their lives are unfulfilling, at least as far as careers go. They will never truly be successful because they will never be able to have the passion for their work that we will for ours. Hopefully for most people into film, it isn't about the fame or the fortune (or rather opportunities for both), but about this wonderful artform that is worth our time and our devotion. It is so important to us that we are willing to risk everything for it, because in risking everything, we are only risking ourselves, and we are so devoted to its cause that in essence, then, we risk nothing of consequence. What is really the risk? That we would fail? Not to try at all, now that would be failing. That would be a life certain to end in disappointment. But following your dreams with every ounce of strength and energy you have, that is a cause worth your loyalty.
