I went to Boston University and I had a good time. The professors were good, met a lot of people because BU is so huge (even though the Communications school is small) and going to school in Boston is a blast.

BU is a bit pricey though. Aren't all colleges these days? whew.

Does it have a good film program? Sure. The professors were great. Keep in mind that when I was there you cannot take a film production class until your junior year although you take film studies and screenwriting course before then. Which isn't a bad idea...you need to make a film about something right?

How does it compare? No idea. Only went to one film school. Smile

Is it the best? No. Is it good? Yes. Did I have a great time? Definatley. Film School (or college for that matter) is really what you make of it.

SVA school of visual arts should be a great school (top 10 filmschool)

a guy from my swiss high school went there and won a student academy award...and the expenses are not at the NYU-crazy-level

I would definitely consider that one...and it is in Manhattan...no better city on the planet than manhattan...ok...Prague is better...cause its beautiful and there are 231089790128 cuter woman than in the whole USABig Grin

North Carolina School of the Arts is another great school.

FSU has a fantastic program, and they give your budgets for your student films. (senior projects get a budget of $25,000 and have the option of using their 35mm cams.)

If you went to BU did you hear anything about Emerson. Did you hear anything about the kids who went to Emerson?

I have a lot of friends who went to Emerson.

They never said anything bad about it.

If you're looking in the northeast, I would rank the schools as such:

1. NYU
2. Columbia
3. Temple
4. Boston U.
5. CUNY
6. Brooklyn College
7. New School
8. NYU -- Continuing ED

Avoid:

School of visual Arts (My impression is that it's too expensive for the quality of education you get, and the equipment is terrible.)

Of course, the best film education is to PA yer butt off...

Hope This Helps,

I live in Boston, and everyone I've known who has gone to Emerson has loved it. They have a good program there. Then of course there's BU and NYU.
