I'm not a student there, but I have considered LA film and NYFA. A career in film is very uncertain. And it's just something about those schools that screams, SCAM! No offense to anyone who goes there. Which is why it's better to consider going to a traditional university. Alot of people say you don't need to get a degree to be successful in the industry. And thats ture for some people. But usually without a degree, you have to be rich, have lots of contacts, very talented, and very lucky! Otherwise, It just doesn't happen for you. I'm not sure what you want to do specifically in film. But taking the easy way in, by attending those one-year conservatory's is very risky. And a very big investment. It would be a shame to waste so much money. So my best advice is to reserach those schools as much as you can. And make sure attending LA Film is really what you wanna do.

I had a friend attend NYFS or NYFA, I can not remember what the school is called, but he was disappointed and by his second year he other students looked at him for answers to their questions rather than the profs. On another note, I did work with a guy who went to LAFS. He DP'd a shoot I worked on-he was a recent graduate-and I thought he did a remarkable job. How much the school taught him I can not say but he was very professional and knowledgeable for such a young age.
My two cents.

Yeah, I think if you already have film-making knowledge and know alot of the technical stuff, then attending a conservatory would be a good idea. You can speed a head of everyone esle. And if you also have the money and contacts then why not? But I'm not sure if thats good for a beginning film-maker. It's just to much money to attend NYFA, and still come out...a beginner! I think those programs only teach the basics of film-making, which is not enough for the cost of attending. You can take very little of the cost to go there and make your on film/shorts. Or simply just go to a university, and you will be awared a bachelors degree and not a certificate of completion.
