Ok, so I'm going to syracuse's film school next year, and I just visited this weekend to check out the school. I toured the film school and talked to some people and i kept hearing that they were more geared toward "independent" filmmaking. I was like "ok i can handle that". Then I went to this student film festival for syracuse students and it was very really experimental, abstract stuff. i'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that my style is more "traditional" for lack of a better word, more narrative. i dont know if anyone has any knowledge specific to syracuse but is this going to be a problem if the program is more geared towards experimental filmmaking? i've heard stories of people being pigeon holed into a certain genre because that's what the professors style is. is this going to be a problem for me do you think?

I can't really say I'd know, but it might be interesting to attend an experimental school as a narrative filmmaker. Film school is all about experimenting; you go to find your voice (at least for undergrad) not to just use it. I had a friend who went to the Art Institute of Chicago for his undergrad. While everyone was making real "arty" stuff, he was making Zombie flicks and Alien movies. His stuff's really good and you can tell his classmates' influences gave his main-stream movies a little punch.
