Hi, I am 25 and from the UK. I want to go to USC to do the BA and/or MFA in film production.

I am a bit confused about the requirements to get into American film schools. I have Scottish standard grades and Scottish highers.

I think addmissions to USC are closed, and the deadline for cources in the UK is approaching.

What do you recommend I do to get into USC.

Could I enroll in a cource in the UK and transfer to USC BA in production? If possible, what cource must I enroll in? BA in film? A 2 year general education cource? Any BA? And would I be transferring into year one of the USC BA or year 3?

If my only option is to do a BA in the UK and then apply for the USC MFA in production at USC. What degree cource do you reccommend I do in the UK? I want to direct hollywood films..

Thank you,
John

Help us help you — how much higher education do you have? Do you already have a post-secondary school degree equivalent to a Bachelor's (4-year) degree? If you haven't had any post-secondary education, then you could apply directly to USC for the BA in production. At your age, you're probably going to want to get into what you want to do!

Give us some more info so we can help you out.

You might as well apply directly to the USC undergraduate program. Also apply to some schools near you. If you don't get into USC, you could try starting college at a local school and transfering to USC.

OR, you could move to Los Angeles (a big step, but if you're committed to this dream it wont matter), try enrolling in a community college or smaller university, and at the same time start working in the film industry. Then you could try transferring.

There are many, many options.

The most important thing is to get involved in film now. Dive in — look for local productions, try making your own stuff, anything. That is the best way to start developing.

If both at USC, it's utterly redundant. You may find that, if you get a BA from a smaller college, that you still want more training in an MFA program. But if you do a BA in production, you'll almost certainly want to get into the industry.

Thank you

wish i knew what i wanted to do when i was younger.. would of worked hard at school and did a ba in acting and then a mfa at usc in filmmaking.. and be a film director, screenwriter and actor.

im too old to go back to college so i am just going to start watching lots of movies..writing myown scrips.. and then make the movies with my own money.. and play small parts of them. sort of like tarinteno did

ill probably buy equipment.. and take some short professional cources in directing, screen writing and acting..

thanks again
