I'm a sophomore in high school and I am very interested in going to film school.
I wanted to know how much film experience in high school (number of classes taken, number of movies made, awards, etc.) that film schools expect you to have...

i just got accepted into chapman university for film production but i haven't heard from anyone else as of yet.
you really dont need THAT much experience. The only class my high school offered was a one semester digital video course in which i learned nothing useful... and i did an independent study in film on my own this year as a senior.
I did fresh films a few years back, receiving 2nd place with my nashville, TN crew... thats about as extensive as my awards go. I also volunteered as a camera operator at my local community access television station.
What really gets you into these schools is GOOD ESSAYS. It seems like most film schools want good writers... and as far as the portfolio goes, most schools only want a LIST of what you have done, not to actually see your work.
and don't fall into the common misconception that you dont need good grades for a film major... the best film schools out there are part of really good universities like usc and nyu... which means you need pretty decent academics to be considered at the university.
hopefully this helps.
