Hey all- I am now several years out of school and into my career. My school experience was lacking, to say the least. Maybe we can help some future students avoid problems. What was you experience?
He he, no horror story to share (I have a few but I'm trying to block them out) but on your cafepress page the NO WEDDINGS hat is friggen hilarious! He, he, no weddings.
I guess one of my ongoing horror story is the fact no one has ever heard of my school! I know that's a bit off topic from some sort of major internal problem but it still sucks. Cogswell (my school) has overall been great but it sounds like I went to school in a Jetsons cartoon. I guess in the long run it won't matter much and my school loans will be easier to payback than say USC or NYU (although I'd say 90% of people going there have mumsy or daddy footing the bill!) And yes I only say that out of haterism so take it as a compliment.

I'm at Evergreen and my experience is the following. STAY AWAY FROM THE PROGRAMS HERE AT EVERGREEN. They will fill your mind with artsy crap that has nothing to do with the art or techniqual aspect of FILM MAKING. They will mostly talk about hidden messages and the raciest, sexist institution that hollywood is and how anything it ever makes is terriable and should be shuned. They claim it's a production class, but really unless you are REALLY into documentaries or an unattractive (an attractive one is "exploitive" and there for non-artistic) hippi laying nude on the beach contemplating the meaning of gummy bears then it's completely useless.
HOWEVER, the contracts here are great if you can sneak it past the faculty. For instance, I am making a feature length fantasy film spoof that is narratively driven (when going here you have to specify that). This kind of film has never been done before at this college, they hate anything commercial/linear/funny... Why did I get away with it? Because I had minorities staring in the caste, they are big into the PC thing here. I received 28 rejects on my contract till I mentioned that my caste was multi-cultural and my orientation was a bit curved. Now it's "revolutionary" because it combats Hollywood on gender issues and racial relations... AKA BS. The script has nothing to do with that. I hired this caste because, THEY COULD ACT! I don't care what color they are and my sexual orientation shouldn't matter. It shouldn't give me a leg up or down over any other straight film maker. This college is exploitive. It wants to be so PC and non-raciest that it is raciest... But don't claim it's reverse discrimination, because, "There's no such thing." This is just offering a, "balance".
#2 problem here, HIPPIS KILL YOUR FILM. THEY SMOKE WEED ALL THE F'ing TIME AND WILL WANDER OFF MID SHOOT. Or they will be drunk when they arrive and be belligerent.
Oy stupid hippis, William

haha dude, I can walk to Evergreen from my house - I'm constantly in fear of hippis crawling from the forest and molesting me for pot. Yeah dude, what were you thinking when you went there? Nobody will take you seriously in life again, no matter how smart you are (jkjk). But Evergreen is bloody creepy.
