I just wantd to post a little reminder or new news to some. When looking for a film school...make sure to check out the politics of that particular school.

What I mean is, read, call and ask questions concerning "rights" to your films that will be made at the school. I know for sure that at U.C.L.A the school owns your films and the same is true for Vancouver Film School in Canada.

I think this is crazy. Why in the hell would you go to a school that tells what and what you can't do with your own art! The only up side to the situation in my opinion is that sometimes those schools that have the rights to your films, will help fund your films, but usually not a whole lot, so just keep ya eyes in check.

I understand some peoples concern that the school will own the films you make, but is this really a big deal?

I think it is a small price to pay for most school that fund at least some part of your film. It's not like you can't use or screen your film in most cases as well. You just need permission from the school.

Nobody really owns the films they make in Hollywood. The studio owns the films. So take that as you will.

I'm not sure that everyone wants to work in Hollywood. Plus the idea of those schools owning your films is to make "money". It's too bad that college is a big business, with Deans as C.E.Os.

Sure Hollywood helps fund your films, but what Hollywood Studio makes you pay(tuition at film schools) to make movies? You already have to give up so much money, it's almost a crime to take the only thing you have, which is ownership of your art.

I'm not sure I understand you. I'm a little slow on the draw. You're saying colleges own a student's only art (meaning their student films)?

MIND,

I am currently in the Chapman application process. The only advice I can give out is to APPLY VERY EARLY, like August, or July even, as soon as they start recieving applications. I applied last year, and was accepted, but due to space limitations and the time of my application (LATE), I was not admitted. I am now waiting thru my second round, and have my fingers crossed.
I applied early this year (NOV) but still it wasn't early enough. Now I'm on pins until march 15th or so. They are a great school and have a very knowledgeable staff and ample equpment and connection resources. Look forward to debt payments.
Good Luck,
-Klatu
