Hello to all,

Okay, I know it's a bit early but I'm planning to come and study in America as soon as I'd finish my school back here, which will unfortunatly take four years ... it's just that I'm curious about the film schools in America, are there a lot? Which ones are recommended? How do you get in? How many students get in in year?
Here in the Netherlands we have one filmschool: The Dutch Film Acadamy in Amsterdam. They accept about fifty students max for one year so that's kind of keep trying over and over again.

Oh .. and I would like to make some online friends Smile

greets ... Dimphy

Welcome Smile

There are plenty of film schools to go round here. Are you currently in highschool, or undergrad college? In other words, will you be looking for a four year or two year (undergrad or grad) film school in the US?

Thx for welcoming me Smile

Uhm ... I finished high school three years ago, finished my undergrad study a week ago, so the study I'll start next year would be a grad ... I think, if US education is similar to Dutch education.

What I had in mind was I would go and become a newsreporter at first, figure out a way to fulfill my training periods in the US, then maybe stick around at one of those newspapers so I can go for filmschool. But, as I understand, undergrad is the shortest?

Maybe it would be wise if I tried to find out how similar Dutch and US education are, and then decide what would be the wisest Wink

You're in filmschool now ?

I'm not sure if the education system is the same. I'll tell you what we've got and you can compare.

Here we have four years of highschool (14-18 years old) and then four years of undergrad college (18-22) to earn a Bachelor's Degree and then two years of grad school (22-24, if you start right away) to earn a Master's Degree and then even more for a PhD.

I'm going to be starting undergrad film at NYU in the fall.

No .. it's not the same then. Our highschool has three different levels for starters ... and only when you finished the highest level, you'll be able to go to university, if not, you have to go by another route.
But thanks for the information!
