Hi, I'm new to the forums and thought I'd join as I decided to pursue studying film and am currently looking at schools to apply to. The schools I'm currently looking at are:

UCLA
USC
NYU(possibly)
FSU
Northwestern University(is anyone familiar with their program?)
BU

I have several others on my "safe" list but these the ones I'm most aware of.

I'm a senior, will have a 3.6 to a 3.7 GPA by the time colleges recieve my transcript, am in the IB program with a majority of my classes being IB and I have a 1920 on the SAT,
Math- 620
Reading-600
Writing-700(with 12/12 on the essay)
and a 700 on the Biology subject test if that helps at all. I'm thinking of retaking it and I know colleges look for higher but I'm not sure the weight film schools will put on the SAT.

I have a fair amount of involvement in extracurricular activities including honors societies, sports, and volunteer work, including helping with an inner city drama program.

I have some experience filming and making some short films, but am going to begin working on a solid film for my portfolio. My question is this: What colleges are "in my range" and what else do film schools look particularly for and what weight do they put on other? I know how selective these programs are, particularly USC, UCLA, FSU and NYU, and was also wondering what other prominent film programs were out there. Any help whatsoever is appreciated, particularly from students who have been accepted to any film schools. Thanks.

Look into the Dodge College of Film at Chapman University. I will be a freshman there so I will post about my experience as it progresses. However, right now, I can say that I have been incredibly impressed. Dodge's facilities completely destroy everything at NYU, USC, and UCLA.

As far as getting into Chapman goes I am not entirely sure. It's a very involved process, they look at a lot of different aspects. It's very selective (less than 10% accepted).

I will post more as I experience the school more.

Though I plug Chapman often, I'll take this opportunity to vouch for Cody and add that I'm a sophomore, and can say with ample experience that Dodge will destroy anything.

Read my thread about it here.

Definitely, definitely, definitely look into it. At the very least, visit if you're in the area.
