I recently moved to canada and always have been interested in film making ,I worship films ,music vids , adilms in general. It was childhood dream to be come a film maker someday ,and well I am already 32 now!!! ,I am currently empolyed as a 3d artist ,have been doing this from past 8 yrs or so.My obvious choice is to to vfx course down here and then eventually move up the ladder and do film making course at the same time ( i like to think about this practically from mind NOT heart ) on the other hand my heart tells me to follow my dream ,do a film making course and see what goes on from there ,but at the end i more confused than a 3 yr old kid ,
Vfx course : this is a growing line in canada and if don't want to be lost in the world of film amking than some background in this i guess would definetly help to start on your own for doing move trailors to doing vfx for smal time music videos etc .since you do it yourself and have a pssoin for it you cut down on he budget marginally and give a good product at the end of it.
film course : I have been going though forums for sometime and it seems no film school can be really good if you want to break in the market ,make name for yourself etc you got work hard far more than vfx course.
and at the end of it doing vfx ( after giving 3 yr time ) ,doing film course and then looking at your carrer seems spicy enough ,but not sure if it practcal or RIGHT.
Here are my queries greatly appreciate it if you could answer ,give tips ,suggestions :
1) what would you choose between film course and vfx course and why ,both love films at different level ,one gives the benefit of job or freelance work and films not sure about them.
2) do any of you have post -production background or otherwise before joining and film course or a serious film carrer.
3) would you agree with me you having sound knowledge of vfx would help you to deliver better product ( music vides ,ad- films to your client.
4) if you were to choose film course carrer what sort of carrer could you expect for yourself ,what sort of money or contacts you make as an editor etc.
I am thiking more than doing anything ,but i have made many mistakes in my life and at this time want to take the right decision.
cheers,
dari

I don't know much about visual fx schools, except for one that I've heard about called dave's school in Florida. Here's the website: http://www.daveschool.com/ and from what I've seen of their films, I liked.
I'd choose filmmaking over visual fx... but you have to do what you feel is best. If you think its more important to have job security, then stick to visual fx... otherwise just follow your heart and go with filmmaking, which is always the best thing to do... what good does it do you to do something you don't really want, then struggle for years to work your way up the ladder to your true passion.
In the words of Howard Thurman, "Don't ask so much what the world needs. Go out and do what makes you come alive, because what the world needs most are people who have come alive."
