I know you hear questions about what does or does not get you into film school all the time, but I'm curious about a certain case thats answer isn't described anywhere I read.
Let's say a student has fairly decent grades, a 3.8 GPA, and medium-high SATs, say 1900. Let's also say he takes 2 APs. With those marks I'm sure USC and NYU he can kiss good-bye too.
On the other hand, let's say his film work is way above average. Let's say he's produced short films that have been accepted into Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes, and many more.. not directed.. produced. But the kid wants to go to school so he learn how to direct, and get a chance to direct his own films, breaking away from a producing-only rep.
And let's say he's spent time interning at ICM, gathering loads of connections and a bonafide feel for the business.
Would he get into the schools like NYU and USC? I know this seems like a dumb question, but for someone I know it is really relevant, and I would greatly appreciate it.

http://www.collegedata.com has pretty much everything you need to know. But that is an excellent resume, though, and it definetley will not be overlooked by admissions people. However, you probably should try to make a small little short film for reel purposes that shows vision and talent on your part, just to prove that you have the ability to direct. But, hey, even if you don't get into NYU or USC or decide not to even apply, it sounds like you have a good future ahead of you with your resume and connections...just find any decent film school and I think you'll be totally set.
