I'm getting a little bit worried at the moment about how likely it is for me to get accepted into any film school.
I feel this way because of how small the admitted freshman classes are at each major film school; USC accepts 50 students, FSU accepts only 25, or so I've heard, Chapman accepts 125, etc.
My SAT scores are decent, with a 680 in math and a 520 in critical reading. Granted, I didn't prepare at all and I'll be taking it again in less than a month, but I don't see how I can compare to the thousands of students applying to snag 1 of 50 or so spots. My GPA is a 3.41 out of 4, which is again, decent.
I'm just wondering how much these art schools bank on the essays and portfolio work. Also, if one gets accepted to the university, but not the art school, can he or she attend the university and then transfer at a later time?

The schools bank A LOT on essays (especially) and portfolio work.
But these are the most competitive undergraduate programs in the country. What you have to realize is that it's not all about stats (though a better SAT would do nothing but help you) - it's really about creativity and your ability to express yourself in writing. If you take the applications and essays seriously, you'll have just as good of a chance as anyone else.

FSU's classes are always 30 people. they aim to let in 25 however if they don't think the application pool is strong enough they will let in less and hope for transfers. transfers are accepted as sophomores in the film program and they only let in the remainder of the 30 so for example they let in 25 fresh and 5 transfers.
it is based on your essay resume sat gpa and recommendations for fsu. and if you get to the interview then its based on your responses.
