Upon graduating high school in 2002, I put off college to help care for an ailing family member, which was so time consuming I also didn't work within that period.

Do you think my age/general lack of academic and work activity within the past several years will be a problem for SUNY Purchase's film program, or will they judge me entirely on my creative merits and how I performed in high school?

I'd say it will probably make you seem less desireable but if you did good enough in high school and have a good portfolio they will probably overlook it
