I just wrote a post about action/sports filming and if there were any schools that specialized in this area. Apparently nobody has heard of such programs. I was wondering about what kind of programs someone might recommend for someone that wants to shoot beautiful surf movies. If anyone is familiar with "September Sessions" or "Thicker Than Water"... those are great examples of what I would love to make someday. I am unsure of whether I should apply to a one year intensive program or go to an art school and spend 3-4 years. Thanks.

I think that regardless of what you want to do, a 4 year art school would give you more experience, more connections, and more training that a one year program. I would take the art school route of I was you, that is, if you are dead set on this industry.

There aren't, to my knowledge, any schools that specialize in one type of filmmaking. It sounds to me like the best way into the action/sports industry would be just to do it. I was under the impression that most skate/surf/snow movies were filmed by a friend with experience, anyway, not a hired professional, but I wouldn't know anything about it.

Actors? What actors?

I answered this on your other post. Since now you direct it specifically to surfing, my area of expertise, I add to my advice to use the money you will save by attending LACC & LAVC on going to the North Shore during Christmas vacation to shoot Pipeline. Otherwise, its garbage in = garbage out which means Southern California's surf is garbage and you will not be able to shoot "beautiful" footage like you can on the North Shore.
