I went to visit Purchase this past week and even though the aesthetics are ****ty and the building itself looks like a prison, i like the structure of the education. I like the fact that they only choose like 20 out of 800 kids in the film department for undergrads and that it's small enough and quiet that you can concentrate. I also like the fact it's cheaper than a lot of schools and you start shooting with 16mm right away your freshman year, and the fact that its 30 mins away from manhattan. However, i spent my summer visiting NYU and took this filmmaking workshop there and it was alright, i didnt really learn anything new. i feel like there's a lot more concentration and advantage for the NYU grads than in the undergrad department. I dont like the fact you dont start shooting right away when you get into nyu although it is pretty and nice looking and im sure you could hook up with some nice connections. I dont mean to sound like an ass but i also don't like the pretentious *******s that get in. Although im sure you'll find those everywhere but at NYU i feel like its just full of hype. My heart is really set in manhattan so i dont know about white plains... i'm stressing over this. The difference though, i dont know i haven't visited many other colleges besides new school, sva, and hunter in the film department but i am liking purchase's structure more than all of those. I'm just wondering who has gone to Purchase or is going and your reasons -- and describe a little of the filmmaking experience? Thank you.
