Just wondering out of the people on this board who is in film school right now, who wants to go, and who thinks it's a waste of money...

What is your Film School Status?

Those are nice choices, but unfortunately I can't pick one.

I work a full-time job (non-industry related) and have just gotten into filmmaking as a sideline (finished my first short in NOV, working on my second now). I also write plays in which I'm having my third short play produced this weekend. I have to work the full-time job to: (a) live; and (b) film-make(!).

However, if I were to win the lottery or somehow become independently wealthy, I would go to filmschool, learn the technical end, toss out what I don't want to know and make/write movies (I'm pretty sure I'm a better writer than a filmmaker!), but who really knows/cares!

Good question, though.

How about an option if you already went to film school? Check.

Going to Film School at Boston University (undergraduate) was definitely a great experience. College itself is (was) a great experience.

If you can, go. If not, don't. Film school is NOT a requirement to work in the entertainment industry.

However, Film School helps if you make the most of it...and it is a lot of fun.

The intersting thing is that I've checked most colleges in NC that have some sort of drama/film-video program and NONE offer ANY classes at night, on weekends or online.

Most other curriculums are available that way, but not the Arts. I'm sure there is a reason, but older adults who may want to take those courses are shut-out.

Maybe it's because there isn't a need. I would definitely spend money to take some course - even non-credit courses - to make myself a more knowledgeable filmmaker/screenwriter/playwright!
