Of course film school is important. Many say Nah because they wanna be the kind of filmmakers who stand out by having made it on their own. Many of those fail. Others just dont get accepted and are venting anger. Go to film school.

ehe My first first 6 days this week at NYU were worth the whole tuition I met a bunch of crazy, freaky and totally cool people (and even more totally beautiful actresses, which is probably the most impotant aspect of being here...) and I had a blast
so yea, go to filmschool!!!!

i wouldn't discount a college degree... i wouldn't pass up my froo-froo liberal arts college education for anything. i watched so many kids go through the conservatory program where i went to grad school... all of them with great film/theater skills... but nothing to really say or no knowledge to comment on anything at a higher level, and no knowledge of the history and culture of the performing arts. it was a real shame. but everyone's different... formal college isn't for everyone. that was just my experience.

If you do not go to a liberal arts college, you can do 2 things to be even better than those who went: Go travel around the world (backpack, it is not that expensive, believe me, just do not buy a car, use the money for the plain ticket;P), meet people, talk with them, experience other cultures and their problems ...read a lot, literature...(uhhh...something I should do more often:P)
just my humble opinion

I totally agree. Most of these kids think that by taking film classes and going to NYU is going to get them into the film business.I highly doubt it. In this business it's more who you know then what you know.
