I was accepted into both schools. I seem to be leaning towards SVA, mostly because they don't accept as many kids as Columbia, and they are in New York.

Does anyone have an opinion on which is a better school? Who has better equipment? etc.

First year students at SVA I heard don't get the luxury as students in their sophmore, junior or senior. I think each year you are able to rent out more and better equipment. Plus, it's also supposidly equipment from the dinosaur age.

Columbia I know you have all access to all equipment... I think

I'm going to SVA- I was in the same boat. Columbia is a dream "cinematography" school because you have all the equipment at your fingertips but SVA is in NY and NY is an excellent place for film because you have so many oppritunities to your advantage.

My friend does photography at SVA and she gets to work with some of the top photographers so I know for a fact that their internships are excellent.

Columbia everyone gets accepted so you will have to deal with the people that aren't really into it and just for the easy ride.

If you have any other questions I can talk to my friends that go to both schools.

I'm a sophmore at CCC and just wanted to and some info to this. The way the majority of the rentals work at Columbia is you have to be in a class that requires/permits the cage access. But this isn't a problem really if you follow any sort of smart class planning as you go through the courses. But to get to the better stuff you do have to take certain classes so that they know you can actually use the gear.
