Hey Guys, This question comes to my mind several times although i know the truth. My question is "Wht r the pospects after graduating from film schools like USC till Ohio univ? " (This shud include merely all top 10 film schools of US)
Do the college/univ mentioned above give job guarantee, placements, scholarships?
For a person like me who wud be an international student for USC, UCLA , ETC ETC , I need to know wht r the job prospects. Seriously cuz after taking a loan of 30-60k , one also needs to work n repay + gain exp as well.
I dint want to come to US and join some private schools like NYFA, LA Film school (i got admitted here) since these courses are vocational, + 1 yr , + no chance of getting scholarship, + with M1 instead of F1 visa etc .
I spoke to one of my frend who stays in LA (hes into filmaking, i mean he cudnt afford 30-40k plus time there so is currently studyin frm NYFA). He sed if i were to come to US , it wud ONLY be wise to join USC,UCLA,NYU etc univ else no where.
Wht say grp?
I need your feedback guys!
Thanks -Sid

It's not at all guaranteed... but very likely that you'll be able to work in the industry (keep in mind that that might mean getting the gaffer's coffee). However, from what I've been able to figure out it seems that if you're good, and build up a good portfolio, and have a good head for business you can do pretty well right off the bat.

LMAO! And what makes you think that's so bad?? lol.
There is a book that I'm reading right now, it's really good, it's called "What They Don't Teach You in Film School". Check it out now!
The way I look at it, regarding graduating from film schools, is that i'm going to be a director no matter what happens. My family and friends need a movie? I can do it because I've spent 3 years going to school for it, you better believe the film will be awesome! I can be a camera man on a local t.v station, I can pretty much do anything on a set here in hollywood, I can even get coffee for the gaffers, the point is I won't give up...you won't either if you love to do it enough. One important thing though, always be writing. Write for 2 hours everyday until you write a script that's presentable. When you have a script that's presentable, start filming it. When you are done filming it, show it off, then start working on another script. Write, write, and write.
So, to answer your question, it's really hard to say what kind of job you will have after graduating. The school I want to go to will offer a job placement program when i'm through with school, but after that, I do know since a field like this relies heavily on freelance work and networking. You gotta be your own boss. you have to be driven to this field of work. If your in it for the money then you need to stop right there and re-analyze why you want to do films because the pay won't be all that great, unless your Steven Spielberg. Fact is, directors and actors are a dime a dozen, so you need to stand out and be committed.
