hello there. i'm a junior in high school interested in becoming a film editor and i just stumbled on this website.

I've been visiting some schools and I was just curious to know what you all believe the best route would be.

There are schools like USC and NYU where I may learn a lot in terms of editing and grow in that field, but i may get little hands on-expeierence and, from what i've heard, bad connections after i graduate. Also, they are pretty hard schools to get into.

Then there are smaller schools like Emerson (which was AMAZING when i visited it) where i'll get a lot out of it and probably an internship in LA my senior year.

I seems kind of obvious to choose a school like Emerson but i'm unsure about living in boston( i was born and raised on the west coast) and not getting "the college expierence" compared to if i went USC. Also I dont really know if a school like Emerson will give me the caliber of training I'll need?

Just wanted to know if anyone could help me out on my decisions or wanted to discuss anything.

thankk you

A BFA from USC Production will give you loads of experience, myriad internship opportunities, and an unbelievable network of alumni working in all aspects of the industry, so you might want to check your sources. There's a wealth of information on the internet, including this site.

Best of luck.

Um, I'm not quite sure where you're getting your info, but the connections for USC and NYU are generally considered the best of any of the film schools. Also, there's no easier way to get an internship in LA than to live in LA (an SC advantage).

Consider this: USC and AVID have an explicit connection (the SCA dean is a member of AVID's board), and all the equipment is being updated by next December. I also have a friend who's going to focus on editing. It's a great school.

Though, I'm sure Emerson and NYU are also great.
