Out of curiosity, what program were you applying to at AFI?
I was applying to the cinematography program.
The interview was pretty rough. It was with the head of the cinematography department and an alumni advisor and lasted a little over 45 minutes. They're well aware that their department is basically the best in the world for cinematography (Which is why I applied) and wanted to make sure I know it as well. They only asked me a few questions and basically ripped any answer I gave them to shreds, even when it was in concurrence with what they corrected me with

. Then they basically tried to tell me that the program was a destroyer of men and asked if I was prepared for the financial commitment (Which I tried to dodge, and no doubt it hurt me).
When they initially called me, it sounded like it was gonna be a cakewalk. They repeatedly said that they just wanted me in for "An informal chat" (Like the FBI?) and that it was a very good thing because only a few applicants make that cut (They only do 1 weeks worth of 45 minute interviews on top of their normal schedule).
According to my friend the directing interview was much nicer. They looked at his reel and asked him what he was trying to do and they basically kissed his ass. They put my reel on a monitor for my interview, but it was behind them, so the only person that could see it was me!
The head of the department is definitely an interesting guy, though. He had a lot of really good stuff to say.
They sent acceptances and the final round of rejections on April 15th. I got my rejection on the 16th, but I live about a mile from the campus.
Best of luck to all those that haven't heard and major congratulations to everyone holding an acceptance letter! And to the rejects like me, f*ck 'em, we don't need them anyway! ;-)
Nota "Will post his reject worthy reel online sometime soon if people want to see it" Mono
