I was one year there

Small school, very personal film programm

I had a blast first year, got into NYU. Total creative freedom

with jamie yerkes, they have a cool teacher. David Steritt is good as well

However, I made the experience that the students were....well most of them...not very devotet to film.

mhh ask me more specific thingsSmile

Hey i just visted their over the weekend.

The building their in is kinda old, but they said in a year their moving to the old gym and will have i think 2 small studios and stuff because they built a new gym.

I went to a few classes and it seems like the film school is really good, alot of personal attention. I was talking to a student and he said a few of his friends transfered to nyu after the second year.

They said they were ahead of everyone at nyu because they got to use equipment in fresh and soph more years and that C.W. post was better for film.

A few other said the film progam was awsome. One girl said that the film school was good but everythign else wasnt.

Also did you go to alot of partys and night clubs in manhatan or just around c. w. post?

thanks Brian

bassically, my idea was always to go to a small filmschool, get a 4.0, make a good short and then transfer to NYU or USC.

It is a good way, because you can do some easy liberal arts classes at the smaller university, AND you skip the freshman year at NYU which is imho not very good, compared to sophomore, junior and senior year.

i see, i have heard alot of people transfer from that school.

here is what i read

Seeing as it is a smaller campus, I expected to be a person in the administration's eyes instead of a number. Turns out the only thing that the admin sees anywhere is $ and how much they can make. Anywhere they can make their bureaucracy more efficient for them, they do it; even if it is extremely harmful towards students/faculty.
Public Safety is a joke, but they act like they're big and bad. If they catch you drinking underage outside, the only thing they can do is make you poor the drink on the ground.
There is no campus life, especially on the weekends. The admin holds a few events during the year and tries to make us feel that we're privlidged to have an admin that cares about it's students. They also have no source of food anywhere from 8 p.m. till 8 a.m.
The buildings, dorms especially, are in poor condition. Beds, drapes, radiators, doors... are always broken or damaged and what makes matters worse is that the admin is not very efficient in fixing them.
Same thing with the Internet Technology office. If you're box, jacks for tv, phone and network, is damaged and you need it replaced, you're supposed to call them. However, I called them three times over the course of a few days and never got anyone to call me back or help me. My dad called the next day and they came immediatly.

this school disapoints me more everyday. the advisors here are incompetent, the bursar as well as everything else here will make you wait, run around, ect. for an inexuseable amount of time, the buildings are starting to fall apart, the dorms are ridiculous, never visit in the winter, you might slip on an unshoveled or non iced walkway, the graphics department is in dire need to new reliable computers, and half of my professors have been lunatics. please do not waste for money for this school...even the sane professors know it's not worth it. they totally suck you in with how great this place is, but in reality, once you find out for yourself it's too late.

I HATE THIS SCHOOL!!!!!! Trust Me! everyone does...I live in one of the suites and out of the 8 girls in this suite that were here last semester 4 transfered to other schools and the rest of us are still trying to get out of here...and across the hall EVERYONE LEFT!!! I'm so angry that I paid so much to go to this crappy,EXTREMELY BORING school...there's no such thing as campus life...faculty sucks, they don't even speak english..and let me not talk about the advisers..they are not useful at all, it makes me wonder if they have degrees..WHATEVER YOU DO>>PLEASE DO NOT COME TO CW POST!!!! you will regret it so much..70% of the people I know want to transfer and the other 30% are people who can't go anywhere else or the athletes who have full scholarship and don't really care...I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE COMING HERE..I did meet some great friends, so that part I don't regret( they want to transfer too) but otherwise it sucks..really.

This school just really wasn't all that great for the money you pay to go there. I dropped out to go to community college after they raised the tuition by 2 grand in one year! there was nothing to do there. pretty boring area. small dorms. had some brilliant profs and some complete *******s too. there is a certain psych chair with a white beard that i'm thinking of. I recommend if you don't like nassau county spoiled brats and snobs then don't go here.

THIS IS A COMMUTER SCHOOL!!! which means that since 90% of classes are only held Monday - Thursday, the campus is deserted on the weekends.
The social life off of campus isnt too bad, there are plenty of schools in the area (Adelphi, Hofstra, etc), but on campus is a different story. Although it isnt dry, the ill trained RA's and public safety tend to crack down on any drinking or partying.
If youre looking for a school to meet lots of people, you won't have a lot of luck unless youre from Long Island, or an athlete. A large majority of the student body end up transferring after their first or second year due to this, and the cost of tuition.
The campus is very beautiful, green grass is everywhere, and it doesn't feel like a cement block with a massive parking lot!
The bureaucracy of Kumble Hall (financial aid, academic advising, bursar, etc) is notorious for giving students the run around. It works like this, if you dont know that you have to sign or do something, the school WONT inform you. Make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING they give you, and if they dont, DEMAND IT. Trust me, you'll need reciepts and other such proof.

The reason that I became interested in teaching life-skills was a discussion in my class on teaching students with mental retardation. The professor talked to us about making tasks functional, and having the student learn the task where it would be performed. This has become my mantra, and changed me from wanting to teach students with learning disabiities to teaching life-skills with heavy doses of technology.

If you run into a financial problem, dont wait until it is too late to straghten it out with the bursars office. When you go to the bursars office, explain your cituation to them and arrange some kind of payment plan with them so that you wont get kicked out of your classes and your grades held back and also not to get kicked out of your room if you are living on campus.
other than that, college is what you make of it and remember that you pay a lot for ypour education so dont go there and waste time because 30,000 dollars is not some thing easy to come up with. And remember to always put your work first and partying last. Party when you have the time to.

do most people feel that way about the school, cause it is discouraging.
