Hello everyone,

Today is December 1st and I was wondering whether or not anyone submited to the NFAA for video and got their scores back today.

I got mine back and unfortunatly I was not accepted in to one of their schoalrship programs.

They rank on a scale of 0 - 10 where ten represents Finalists invited to Miami, nine represents Honorable Mention Award recipients, and eight represents Merit Award recipients. A score of zero means that your materials were disqualified because they did not meet the requirements or because your materials were not viewable.

I got a 7.

Which was pretty annoying and frustrating, because they did not back it up(although on a scale this big it would probably be silly to try and offer criticism to everyone). I had a feeling that they would not like my type of mostly music video work too much but I hoped that they would atleast give me a merit award. I am kind of screwed out of film scholarships now (and hopefully not NYU)... I am just frustrated after one of the arts finalists saw my work two years ago and really encouraged me to apply. I always just kind of imagined getting it. ha ha.

But, oh well, sorry for ranting.

I will get over all of this in about five minutes when I relize, that despite all the money and schoarships that gets thrown at these kids, the NFAA Film program is notorious for churning out tools(*cough* Matt Mcdermitt just directed a backstreet boys music video *cough*. And besides, not having any money can help your career.

So, what did everyone else get?

I actually got accepted last year and went to their "ARTSWeek" in Miami, fully paid, blah blah. Incredible experience, very fun, learned some cool stuff, met some great people, and had a fantastic time. The thing is put together so well it's astonishing. What blew my mind was the $2 million dollar gala they have the last day you're there, just for the ARTS winners, it's this HUGE ballroom type event built just for that one night that is just jaw dropping.

I also got to meet the former head/president of Sundance (who is now running the Miami Film Festival), and had the film which they chose of mine (Fallen) screened in front of a huge audience that included the famed dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov (that guy in Sex in the City).

In addition, they have your work screened in this amazing museum where all the people who made donations go to view your work among the photography winners, painters, sculpters, etc.

So basically, it was one of the coolest experiences ever that gave me a lot of contacts.

Now I can't defend what some of the winners have gone on to do (I only got a Level II award, $1500, and a Presidential Scholar nomination but didn't win it), but I must say, tool or not, hell I'm sure many people think I'm a huge tool, but whatever you think, it's one helluva experience that I will always remember.

We can't stop here, it's bat country!
