Can anyone tell me if Canadian film schools have the same cred as U.S. schools? I know this is terribly broad, but, if my son had his heart set on living in the U.S. after graduation, do you think a Canadian film school might slow him down?
Also, if a person were looking at schools in North America, which ones have the best reputation right now?

Generally film schools in the US come up the most in the "Top Schools" discussion, mainly because Hollywood is in the US. Again, there are some great schools in Canada (especially Victoria BC), but it depends on what your son wants to do.
In the U.S., the general feeling (for undergraduate) is:
USC NYU Chapman
For Grad school it gets far more complicated. You have (not in any particular order):
USC NYU Chapman Columbia UCLA UT-Austin etc, etc...
Hope that helps. Really try using the search function - there's so much great discussion and information hidden in the depths of this forum.

Thanks for your responses. I was beginning to think my topic was shunning people. I actually did use the search function...and here I am! This was the top site for the parameters I put in so go figure. I appreciate that you're all re-hashing old ground and it is invaluable to me that you're paring it down. I'm very interested to know if there's any perception, whyever, that the best education in filmmaking is south of the border...
