I have an interview with Hampshire College in the not to distant future, and I’m still not quite sure what it is that they are looking for in prospective students. So if anyone has any advise please, feel free to share it.
Thanks
Kat

I ought to warn you, Hampshire is not for everyone. I interviewed there and got accepted, but I didn't end up going. It's a REALLY weird place, but if that's your cup of tea, then more power to ya.

My advice would be to make yourself appear as "unique" as possible. Wearing a skirt and jeans and dying your hair purple might help.

That sounds funny, but its true. Hampshire people are an interesting bunch. They certainly enjoy themselves though.

I grew up in the 5 college area (Hampshire being one of the 5) and it has a rep of being a "progressive" school. I've heard many conflicting things about it, but almost all the students I met there were real laid back (very very high) approachable creative types, so it can't be all bad! It's no WARD, Colorado though.

Go visit and I think there are some films on this site from Hampshire. Good Luck!

Thanks for all your responses.

I was actually depending on it being a “weird” place. I went to an “alternative education” school that has a program very similar to Hampshire’s. So this will probably be a good fit for me.

And if any one cares, I had my interview today. It went really well. I think they like me. I hope they like me. I hope they like me enough to give me lots and lots of financial aid.

Anyway…

Thanks again.

I didn't mean to come across as too negative by calling it "weird." I probably should have said "different" or some other neutral term like that. The school just wasn't for me and their overall style and atmosphere really turned me off. But it's definitely the perfect place for a certain type of person, and if you're that person, then you'll have a great time there. Good luck!

Don’t sweat it, I new what you meant. And I know that alternative education schools aren’t for every one. I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. I probably should have used some more neutral speech as well.

But anyway, thanks for your support. It means a lot. Big Grin
