I have been looking for a college with a BFA in film and these two have come as my main choices in Ohio, I am going to a school instate for money reasons. I've looked at both websites, and they both seem the same to me. I would like to know if either school has something that the other does not.

Have you considered Kent, Cleveland State, Ohio University, or Ohio State?

I went to CSU ('06), they offer a BA in Film and Digital Media through the School of Communication. From there, I got into USC, a classmate ('07) got into AFI, and another ('05) got into Chapman. Five others ('06-'08) are in LA and working in the biz.

I've only heard great things about OU and KSU, and while I believe OSU's program's on the new side, I'm sure it's worth a gander.

These are mostly BA programs, not BFA, but....

Best of luck!!

I hear BGSU has old equipment, not digital, and know for a fact that you don't pick up a camera until your junior year. Never heard of Wright State's program, CSU I hear is good (and I guess it is according to jayimess), Ohio University I hear has a really good film major (Honors Tutorial), I thought OSU was Film Studies only but I guess I may be wrong, and I have heard very little about KSU's program but I remember seeing a great sketch comedy show from there on youtube.

Ou does interest me but since the HTC only takes like 10-15 people I need that to be my choice 1a and iam looking for a choice 1b I visited Wright state and the film program looked nice from what I could see its just I have heard other things about the school itself and not the program. wright states program is also a BFA which is different from Cleveland state and bowling green if that even makes a difference. Also i am looking to major in production not film studies. OSU doesn't have a degree for film production just film studies.

What is your particular preference for a BFA?

I'm just asking, because who offers those in film? WSU, OU, and Cleveland Institute of Art? Anyone else?

Out of curiosity, I tried to find out some info on WSU, with little luck...but here's a search that led to some interesting info.

WSU Newspaper Articles about the MP Program

Nothing else is even remotely recent (after 2002) except for the school's own website, which sounds really, like quite an awesome program, if vague in description. I think it's weird, though, that it hasn't been updated since June 12, 2007.

Have you visited? Do you know anyone attending the program? Being from Ohio and having gone to CSU, I know what you may mean about the school itself, we used to joke that the only schools easier to get into than CSU were WSU Youngstown, and Central State.

(it was actually equally easy to get into them all, until they stopped open enrollment policies)

My point is, it's what you make of your opportunities within a program, not what the internet says about your school. Go there, see what your vibe is...if you're in Ohio, it's no more than a day trip.

Best of luck.

I went to BG (some for film, some for visual comm., some for education) and can say BG is definitely a film "studies" program with just a few production opportunities.

I took their production workshops a few summers ago and they were fine. Now they have HD cams and are digital with the latest Final Cut Studio in their labs and all, but I can't speak to when you "pick up a camera" - though I did have opportunities to pick up my own camera for final projects and whatnot.

I'd say, if you want production, don't pick BG. It's a decent little town, but there's not much to do besides "go clubbin'" and you'll meet other filmmakers who will just be complaining at the lack of production experience they're getting. A fine programs if you love films and want to discuss and write essays, not as much if you love films AND making them yourself.

Well from what iam looking at wright state will be my best option for film production, I couldn't find a thing on KSU's program and OU's HTC will be very difficult to get into and it seems to me even though I have heard wright state is definitely a very boring place it is probably the next closest thing to OU's HTC program. I visited wright state last march and went on tour of the film faculty and the guy talking said the most that make it to their senior year are about 15-20 people. And it sounds like a very good program only thing i am worried about is wright state itself
