i am looking for a good school to go to thats insanly expensive and i live in michigan. i heard university of michigan has a good program, it looks as if it is all theory and not filmmaking. its either this or columbia collge chicago, but all depends of the prices. so if anyone has some insight on either, especcialy u of m, i would greatly appreciate it!

You can be like Sam Raimi and go to MSU. :P

You can go to Specs Howard for broadcasting, but a degree is really more important. U of M isn't really great for film, but probably decent. There's Detroit Institute of Arts or something, like Kendall? anyway, they do film, but it isn't a real university in that you're getting a degree.

I suggest getting that degree at a university that has a film program - pretty rare though.

If you want to stay in Michigan, my suggestion is to major in TV/Film/Radio program, and do some independent studies in film, or try to get a film internship - try to work on sets, companies, PA jobs, etc.

I also live in Michigan and am about to complete my final year at Grand Valley State University. It has a very good film school. The classes are interesting and the professors are great (the film profs that is). It is out in the middle of no where though but if you can get past that I would suggest checking it out. There are a quite a few selections for film classes and also a lot of directions you can go in with film. Good luck in choosing a school.

I would rate it pretty high, at least in Michigan. There's high quality equipment available for use and all the profs are insistant on being as helpful as they can. Money wise, GV isn't that bad. It's way cheaper that U of M and the past few years I've gotten enough scholarships/grants to cover my whole year. I would suggest at least checking it out, they give tours of the film labs so you can get an idea of what kind of equipment is available. The film website is http://www.gvsu.edu/filmvideo there's some information about all the classes that are offered and the different emphasises there are within the film school. Good luck!
