North arolina School of the Arts, and Florida State University both have excellent programs damn near the equivalant of USC, and UCLA, but without the snow of NYU. There is also University of Central Florida. Just make sure whatever school your applying to guarantees you admission into their film program. Many will ask you to do two years of pre requisits, just to tell you your not admitted to their film program. I have heard FSU dosent look at your reel, but concentrates on whatever your last 60 hours of interning was, while NCSA dosent worry as much about grads, and selects almost all those admited based on the interview. Hope that helps. R. Michael
I just graduated from UC Santa Barbara, and it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL there. Right off the beach, and always nice. It's a huge film theory school, but there are ample opportunities to shoot 16mm sync sound projects if your ambitious enough and make friends with the right students.
