Id say, if you were going to make the treck down here to Florida, might as well do it right and go to FSU, and their film program.

Full-Sail is kind of a joke, and pretty much a throw away degrree. FSU on the otherhand has a very well respected film program. Two years ago, a student film from there was nominated for a student academy award, and last year, a students film got him a 3 pic deal with Dimension films.

Feel free to come to Florida, but if you go to Full-Sail your just throwing your money away.

I am going to Savannah this fall for film school. I've been down there a few times and have taken a tour of thier film school. All that I can say is that it is amazing. I've talked to a lot of people who go there and they all love it.

The coolest thing that I saw down there is this year they have combined the film school and the special effects department in the same building, thereby utulizing the best of both worlds. Supposedly they now actually can use special effects in their student films now because of joint projects with Computer Art. And their stuff is amazing. It looks extremely professional.

Ill tell you I thought about going to FSU until I visited Savannah. They have everything that FSU has (I took a tour of their film school also) as well as the one of the cameras they filmed Episode II in. The have the AKira crane (I think thats what its called), Steadicams, among other things.

I suggest you guys all check it out. It is really amazing. It is expensive but if your good enough you can get a $7500 scholarship. I got this for THE LOST SOLDIERS which will be up May 16 I think. I was extremely impressed by this school when I went for a visit. I've been down there 4 times since then just because I love it so much. Savannah is a great city on top of it all too. And they dye the river green for Saint Patrick's Day!

Anyways, they also edit their films in surround sound which I dont think many other schools do and everything that they have is updated every six months. There are so many advantages here.
Just my imputs. Good luck.

Yeah, Tizzy is a Full Sail hater, but certainly not the only one I have come across.

I can't speak for the first school, but I did graduate from Full Sail. Full Sail is a throw away degree, but guess what, all film school degrees are throw away degrees. Whether you graduate from Full Sail, NYU, or Devry it makes no difference cause you will all be starting in the same place. FSU is certainly a top flight film school, and if your gonna come here and check out Full Sail, do yourself a favor and check it out too. But unfortunatly odds are you won't get into FSU and if your looking to getto use top quality equiptment, then maybe Full Sail is for you. I shot my final project on 35mm with an amazing student DP and it looked great. That said, there is plenty wrong with Full Sail too, and I am far from a shill for Full Sail. I banged heads with many a moron teacher there. But the place is certainly worth considering, but only if your a self motivator.

PS - Despite what you may have read elsewhere, Full Sail doesn't have a very goods special effects class, but then again most school don't even have it as a class.

Hope this helps, good luck

Cammo

I like to thank you guys and girls to take the time to write...
Like cammo said being a self motivator and working hard and really putting your head into what you are doing is really important...School can only give you so much..there is no way anybody or institute can make you learn..if you dont want to..i like to go to FSU or NYU but hey i would be spending 4 years to get into business..
On the other hand (if i go to full sail) i will be in business for at least 3 years..versus 4 year college...
I dont think anybody can stop me from learning, except death...thats what i wanna do since i was a kid but never had to opportunity (finances) until now...now kids listen carefully if i can pull this of..so you..i am 40 and have no family to support me..this goes to young kids and have family to support them...
Tizzy you are right to say or write "Luck, is when opportunity, meets preperation."also like to thank you for your concern ideas about full sail..Believe me i will do my best to find out about other schools as much as i can..
Thomas i know savanah sounds good too..and i am glad things working out for you..good luck.I dont think they will give me any scholarship and i dont know if i can efford it..but i will check it out..
Cammo you say you finished full sail..do you mind telling me when and did you find a job? one of my main concerns having to pay that large school bill... Mad

musik, if you are really strapped for cash then Full Sail might not be your best bet. When you graduate you are saddled with a huge student loan payment, mine is in the 40k range. And because of this you end up taking whatever job you can to pay back your loans, and despite what Full Sail may tell you, there placement department sucks and alot of students end up with internships or working out of the film industry after graduating. I'm currently working at a video game company (go figure, my friends from Full Sails's Game Design degree can't find jobs, irony) but it is a little more complicated for me since I am trying to get funding to make a feature right now.

Some more to think about,

Cammo
