This is the first entry on a film that's been going on for awhile, so I got some catching up to do.
-looking for donations. -Talking to potential actors. -looking for locations. -Creating fights. -Creating music.
Talking over e-mail is hard enough, but imagine trying to communicate the feel of a movie. Word choice is so important. It is especially hard to communicate everything to a composer. Arya Kumar has been very helpful, and I'm sure his experience helps. His work is amazing.
Found the swords I want:
I can see the fight now . . .
Ninja costumes will be hard to get hold of.

I don't know what kind of film your making that involves ninja suits, but if only need one or two, get creative.
I did a shoot last week and we were in need of a ninja suit. We dug up a silk robe from my friends house with a dragon on the back. Underneath we used a long sleeve shirt, cut sweatpants and long socks. We then used hockey tape and taped the persons arms and legs in a criss-sross fashion to give him the kung-fu look. Ended up working quite well. Good luck.
It's been a while since I updated this, but a lot has happened. I'm getting $200 in a donation to buy swords. Most excellent! Filming starts January 6th and that period will end January 8th. After that, half the movie will be done. I got in contact with someone who comes from a Kendo class and through him all the sword movements will be realistic and he can snag a bunch of costumes. So thumbs up there.
In this movie heads and limbs will fly as the good guys dish out the blows as well as recieve the blows. It will make for a very good time.

I have used the same technique on 3 out of 5 people, and it is those three that have given me money. The conversations are somewhat as follows.
Me: So, (Name), you wanna' donate to my cause?
Them: What's you cause? (All three said this).
Me: I'm making a fictional movie about the traditional japanese arts. I need money for swords, tapes, gas, sostumes, and food.
Them: How much do you need? (Two of them asked this same exact question).
Me: Well, I figure about 50 to 100. (I said this to all of them).
Them: Well, I'll see what I can do. I'll talk to you tomorrow.
One of them asked me to elaborate on the movies plot more, but that was about it. It was a whole lot easier then I thought it would be. Of course I promise them a spot in the credits and recognition.

These people are teachers, work managers, rich I people I happen to know. I'm basically asking anybody I know who has a little bit of cushion in their wallet.
