Not in hollywood no, not in the bussines no, I got my own TV show.

Yesw, it's local station, and yes, it's not that big, but it's a start!

And it stands good on my portfolio.

I had the first day of shooting yesterday, and like a real proffesionall i forgot the sheet with questions for the interview. score `1!

Anyway, I'll tell more later, right now gonna sleep. It's 1:06 here. And I'm dead tired.

(dutch time)

Well, since the theme of this board seems to be success stories, I'll post my own...I'm currently doing script and editing work for a big documentary that has a good chance of either being on the Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, or in the Sundance Film Festival...Big Grin

Also, I have a job doing freelance videography for the Summit Corporation of America, and making training videos out of it...the wage is 20 bucks an hour...Big Grin Big Grin

But only if I successfully transfer into Emerson after sophomore year will I consider these REAL success stories. Wink

Here's a little success story for me. I finished editing a music video for a band called "Hollywood Undead". Well, I was actually the co-editor; the director and myself edited the video. But you can check out the video on their myspace page.

www.myspace.com/hollywoodundead

First thing, on the top right is the jukebox, make sure you push pause on the song or else you'll get the music video and the juke box playing at the same time.

Scroll down to the left side and the video is there. They are the first band ever to be signed to a major record label directly from myspace. Anyway, their music isn’t really my cup of tea but the song is pretty catchy.

Hey man congrats! Congrats to all! Why're you feeling depressed? Just because other people are having success as well? Just be happy for them, it's not like they're going to be impeding on your success. They live in th US, and I'm not sure where Schiedam is, but it sounds like somewhere in Europe. You're not at risk of having your show taken over by these guys or anything. And I would say that having your own show is a big deal. I would love to have something like that. You're far more of a somebody than me. Good luck with everything everyone!

Sorry, man, for upstaging you like that...because, really, my successes aren't nearly as great as they seem. I only got the Summit job because my dad is the company V.P., and they needed a videographer and editor, so he lobbied for me...I just come in to film once in a while when they need me and then edit the resulting footage at home, and export the final product to DVD. And I only got the documentary job because one of my cousins knew the guys who were doing it, and that they were looking for script doctors, so my name got mentioned.

As you can see, the key to being successful in the entertainment industry is not talent, or money, or vision, or work ethic, or people skills...it's CONNECTIONS. Who you know is vital to making your big break, so that your name and word of your skills gets out there...then all the other crap comes second. But hey, now that you're making your big TV show, who knows what connections you'll make? Smile

Mr. Gross has hit it on the head. It is the people you know. I got the job editing the Hollywood Undead music video because a while ago I edited a couple documentaries for the video’s producer. He's now producing their next video and I'm attached to edit.

Most of the jobs I have now are because I made friends with the right people, at the time I had no idea they would end up directing and producing major motion pictures and music videos.

Really, that’s why networking is way important and if you’re a film student be kind to all of your filmmaking colleagues because in the future it will pay off...meh, most of the time.

Although connections are great, like Gross said, you still must have what they are looking for i.e. skills and abilities. I've been editing for seven years now and that's why I was hired to do the video, because this connection knew I was an editor and so he wanted to try me out. So learn what you need to now, whether it be editing, directing, producing, etc. You really can't just get connections, most of the time a person usually stumbles on them.

well, let's keep the success stories going!

I just got hired to do a wedding. 450 for 5 hours . That's 90 dollars an hour. Pretty sweet. If I had known there was this much money in weddings, I would have picked this up long ago.
