Hey guys, I am currently working on my first film. After writing a full 57 page script, the film has been cut down to short 21 page script. To begin we thought we could make a super Hollywood ending, with lots of twists and turns, but then realise that it just is not possible. The original concept is still there however, and I personally like this script more than the 57 page one. So my point is that when you are working on a script, always think about what you can use, and what is available and don't get carried away.

Hmm, thanks but I disagree.

It depends on a few things, IMO. How old are you? If you are 18, well, even if you are not, there are ways around just about anything and everything. Write what you want, what you envision, and don't you DARE limit yourself. One thing I like most about this game called "filmmaking" is the concept of overcomming the production obstacles.

Being realistic won't get you far in this business, but then again, I don't know much.

Isn't that all Robert Rodriguez did? Worked pretty good for him on El Mariachi, which is still his best film, because he had to be creative. If you hear him talk about the exploding car that film was supposed to have you'll see that its a good thing he centered the film around the guitar case and turtle that he had, rather than the car explosion, which while it may have been his vision, wasn't gunna happen (no matter how far he could stretch that 7 grand).

I agree with both of you. Like Tomorrow said, if you're early in the game, trying to get your hands dirty, then by all means do anything and everything. Robert Rodriguez himself said that everyone has around ten bad, awful films in them before things get good, so it's best to get those out of the way. He did, and why not try different things while you're at it?

However, if you're more experienced, then by default you'll know your own limitations and abilities, and can judge the best use of the obstacles in your path.

But saying "realistic" is very pessimistic, in my mind. I don't think Rodriguez would say "realistic."
