I've started a new film project, entitled "There's a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella." It's based on a short story by Portugese writer Fernando Sorrentino. Loved the story, and read it over and over again, so I've decided to shoot it. I've obtained the rights from Fernando to adapt the story into a screenplay, which I have just recently completed. It's just over five pages long, and stays pretty faithful to the original story, although I did make a few changes, including the ending. Started a shot list today and hope to complete that soon. I'm waking up early tomorrow to scout a lake/park near my house and get some test footage. Trying to incorporate quite a few locations, as well as some more professional looking shots. Hope to have it ready for a few festivals. Wish me luck.
That just made my day. That's the best short story I ever read. TD, if you haven't read it already (and it sounds like that) it's literally about a man who continually taps another man on the head with an umbrella and doesn't stop. Absolutely hilarious. I can't wait to see how this turns out. DON'T SUCK MARK.
Thank you Ben, I'm making a valid effort to not suck. Love this story too much to mess it up. Doing a LOT of preproduction work for this one, making sure I get exactly what I want. The ending I created is completely different from what the story reads, but I like it a lot. I'll keep you guys updated.
I'm afraid I can't tell you. Don't want to ruin the viewing of it. Most people who read this thread will have probably read the story by the time the movie gets to this site, so a lot of those who watch it will already know what's going to happen. The ending however, is my original creation, and I'd like there to be something for people to look forward to, so you'll have to wait. Sorry.
Great story. I second the dream theory for the new ending, or perhaps a role reversal, where they switch and take turns hitting eachother on the head with umbrellas?

I bet the guy actually stops hitting him on the head with the umbrella, but the guy misses it so much he starts hitting himself on the head with an umbrella for the rest of his life.
