I am beginning work on my short "The Enormous Space" based off a story by J.G. Ballard.
Broken and depressed from his recent divorce, a man becomes sick of the world and shuts himself in his house, never to leave again....for anything.
As his food resources deplete, his insanity grows and his hallucinations become more and more real.
Right now I am writing the script. I basically know everything that is going to happen in the movie, but I just have to write it out. I am already selecting the soundtrack. I know this seems out of place, and a little too early, but I believe music is extremely important in film and I want the music to sort of act as another character in the movie, so as I write scenes, I am picking out the music that will go with the scene.
I hope to begin production in late December. If anyone is in the St. Louis area and would like to help, please contact me! (Especially actors who are in their mid 20's to 30).
Seems very trite and cliched, if you want to work on this plot go ahead but make sure there's something unique about it. I've seen a thousand moves with themes like this.
Well, the story it is based on is very interesting. And I'm basing the movie closely on the story, so I'll be happy with it. J.G. Ballard is a great writer.
any film based on a really good book usually has an innate advantage sounds really interesting! keep posting and let us know how its going. i wish you the best of luck.
picking music right now is not that weird. i've planned on choosing music during writing for my next film as well. not necessarily 100% final music, but some tracks, some styles, and definitely the composers/sources.

Good luck, Durden. I hope it goes well. Sounds very interesting.
As for it being cliched, we have an indie film network here and there are Director's Workshops a few times a year where four directors will take the same scene (from screenwriters in the group) and shoot it "their way".
It's interesting to see how their vision makes each scene different!
I'm foing the same thing now. I wrote a screenplay that im gunna shoot for my first feature this summer,, and a friend (who has done all of my music in the past) sent me a great song. So good in fact that I wrote it in at the end of the film, and actually changed the ending to correspond with the song. Now hes gunna do about 10 songs for the film and we're gunna work together on the themes and sounds, its great cause you get something both original, and fitting

It looks like production is going to have to be pushed back until around June. Which really sucks, because I was looking forward to putting it up on the site some time in January. But now you guys have to wait a few months to see it.
I guess the positive thing is that this just gives me more time to make The Enormous Space even better.
I will probably be working on another project this December. I have a few lined up that I have to choose from, so I'll keep you posted on that.
