Here is the logo of my new film. It is by no means complete and has been in the making for six months now - just wanted to see what people thought of it.

it's alright, it doesn't have much character though. Your film is about gangsters i presume, so theres a lot you could incorporate based on that. Just some stuff off the top of my head that you might want to think about: Maybe put bulletholes in the center of the O in love, or spell gangsters with the godfather font. Also the capital I next to the small n kind of looks like a gun shape, you could try sticking a gun image there instead of those letters, or try and draw the letters so they form a gun. Play off the themes of violence contrasted with cheesy love symbols. Dunno, jsut some quick thoughts
Thanks guys. Erik - I like ur idea of having a gangster stood in the I - maybe a black shadow-shape or something?
particleman - I've done a few tests theres been holes in the text before - once I even animated the logo on screen LOL
I've tried in the past to replace certain letters with images - I replaced the O in Love with a pair of red lips at one time but it didnt look as good as the logo I posted here. Oh, in the final film the logo will be over actual video, not over red.
Thanks again

Yeah but everytime I try to add some kind of fancy-ness to it the "feel" goes out the window. Below is an older version I made - I dunno wat ur opinions are of this one but I feel that the more complex it gets, the craper it gets. Also bare in mind that it will appear over video - revealing any pixel-ness round the edges (which the logo I posted earlier dos'nt have).

Is this "Gangsters" or "Gangstas"? Lol, or in better words, is this like Al Capone (organized crime) or more of a homie type ganster? Cause if it's a "Gangsta" type movie, maybe you could try to incorporate a grafiti type font or maybe one of the gothic homie type fonts.
I personally like the seond one better, it has more character. I think it'd be cool if you used either the gothic or grafiti type font for gangster's then see how that looks. and then maybe add in the siloette of the gangster in the "I". but that might be too much, idk.
my g/f was a graphic design major for print media, so i had to help her on lots of projects and lots of advice on ideas. let's give this a critique.
that "I" is taking up a lot of space for no real reason, it's making it the focus of the logo, but there's nothing there. if you make it that bit to put a shadow figure in there it's just going to be the first thing they read and think
I gangsters in love.
which will just confuse it. having the gangsters in lower case confuses it even more.
when you put a big letter like that, especially on something that isn't a noun, people will be confused. they're looking for information but there's none there.
the simplicity of the yellow and red lends to the idea of it being a "pulp fiction" type story, since a lot of those older novels used thsoe kinds of heavy fonts and colors to draw attention to the small covers in the newstand. so you have to think if you really want to think about your movie being a pulp fiction, which may make the audience not take it seriously. the simplicity of the logo may also make them think that the story is simple, so there's that.
they don't have much personality or identity either.
here's a site that can help you come up with some other concepts:
one last thing, though not directly at the person that started this thread: it's great that you feel the need to pour your creativity into every aspect of your film, but there's nothing wrong with asking people for help, especially if they're much better than you at what they do.
i can draw, but nowhere near as dynamic or as well as my friends, so i ask them to sketch stuff up for me all the time. the idea is to get them excited about drawings your ideas as you are telling them about it. then you all end up with something you like and can be proud of.

Hey thanks for the advice guys. the reason the "gangster" is in lower case is imagine its being wispered and "IN LOVE" is being shouted.
I see wat u guys mean about the I - theres no reason for it to be honest but I just didnt want the logo to be "boring" - I see ur points that the logo is still boring but i think its less boring with the I as it is.
As for a new font - I'll give it a go - I am also experimenting with an image for the I
Thanks again and I'll post more results here ..
OH, the film is about organised crime but were not talking homies or mafia style - were talking a mix, something that dos'nt really exist in real life - its about a gang that controls a city but loses its grip when the boss becomes obsessed with the love of a woman he cant have.
With the logo I wants something "like" pulp fiction, but not pulp fiction. Its gotta be very big, almost filling the screen. I also want it to have a 3D shadow - like the old Taxi tv show - 70's in style but not nessecerily a 70's font (sorry about spelling)
Heres another test - this is the latest version however it prob wont be used (ignore the green background):
