Hello one and all!

The depressing yet true reality is that it had been nearly an entire year since i had shot a new film. While i have been working on a couple of projects, they have failed to be realized. However, finally have something to show for myself! ... though it is not of ideal quality.

I made this film for drama class. We were given a short scene with only dialogue, and were allowed to direct it however we wanted. I made this in about 6 hours from the time i began shooting to the time it was done being edited. I had only myself as camera guy/director, and my buddy as the lead.

I am fully aware that the sound is terrible, and i am truly sorry. I am also aware of some exposure inconsistencies, and focus issues, and occasional breaking of the 180 degree rule. Regardless of these problems, i give full permission to everyone to tear it to shreds. I want to know what you think... whatever it is! Thanks in advance!

Here it is...have at er:

Six hours seems like enough time for you to complete a film that, in my opinion, was impressive. It was a very simple concept. The acting was good. The camera work was my favorite - basically for the simplicity of it -- and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

Keep it up Evan. Are you still participating in that June film challenge thing?

i am fearful that this might have to be my june film challenge entry... I just don't think i have the time to get my other film ready to go by the end of june...it has been a logistical nightmare... i might make another simple film like this if i can pull it together, but it is hard to say. Thanks for watching mark.

True that. I think you could pull off another short like that one - in six hours or more. It shouldn't take too much time. Just get a simple idea together and you'll be fine.

What kind of camera did you use?

I used a DVX100A.

Eeek man...you gotta cut him a little slack. It definitely has it issues, but you have to keep in mind he made it in 6 hours with a script that was assigned to him.

One thing I would suggest is taking 5-10 minutes while you are on location to sit quietly and record an ambient track. This sound clip can be used to really help you ease over audio differences between your shots.

I really like the way you filmed/framed the shots with the red-shirted half. I'm a little too tired to put my finger on why exactly I like it, but it just seems professional and right for some reason.

to be clear, this is in no way a result of trying to rush to complete a film for the june film challenge...It is for school, and yes, it is high school... I am absolutely not into rushing the process of making films, but in this case i kind of had no other choice.. regardless, i am aware of the extent to which quality and attention to detail suffered as a result, though i had perhaps underestimated it.

Evan, I didn't realize you were a high school student. After the Beep had me fooled Wink

I don't have much to add from what others have said about your film. I didn't feel like this was an example of what you're capable of, but I think you know that, eh?

If you have a second, check out my new short I made over the weekend (also in about 6 hours from start to finish)

P.S- Make sure you go to the "watch in high quality" option.
