I've started on our next film, which is still too rough to explain, but contains victorian elements. This project promises to be fairly large, and even more complicated than Lost Springs. So the first thing I did of course, was to start on the visual side of things, completey ignoring story or necessary props. I figured we'd need a gun, so i looked to my favorite replica company DENIX, and found a nice one for 40 bux. Too much for 1 gun, so i decided to make my own
Here is a 10 dollar "party store" pirate gun.

5 types of tole paint, a piece of sandpaper, some painters caulk and a few hours later I now have a Victorian type pistol, for 30 bux cheaper.
It's not as nice as teh Denix one, but it gets the job done. Next update on this project: Someday.

You dont know how many times I have tried to attempt to paint a dollar store gun and failed miserably. Kudos to you.

those locations rock! just make sure you don't show the little papers on the wooden door Big Grin

actually, the more i look, the less victorian they seem. are they like early spanish, or something?

yea these were taken at a local adobe, so they are late 1800's mexican, not victorian. I havent traveld to any of the victorian spots yet. One of our characters is a regal frenchman/italian/spaniard dunno which yet, so this could possibly work for him. Im stopping by the victorian locations sometime this week.

The Victorian age was an English/British thing, so a french/italian/spaniard from that same time period wouldn't be victorian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_age

France around that time was going through the Napoleonic Age, Spain became part of France's Empire during that time, so did Italy for the most part.

Just stuff that might come in handy to know while doing your research.

edit: I bring this up only because A) a french/spaniard/italian from that time period wouldn't have much to do with the Victorian Age and B) Mexico was actually allied to France for a while during that time, so 1800's Mexican adobe actually wouldn't be out of place for a french/spaniard man in Mexico.

Thanks for the link. the story is set in britain, so mexico is a no go, although that was built in about 1860 or so, so it fits our time period. Also I'm not fessing up to all the details on the project, so it's not gonna be 100% historically accurate. At the moment there isnt even a scene that would require the adobe location, or any french/spanish architecture. Im just taking pictures of anything that might work should we need it.

NEXT UPDATE: 1-2 weeks

i submitted my proposal on this film to the college as my final "film studies" project. So i figure I mine as well post the basic idea. IT's going to be about 20-25 minutes, and it has to be in a very rough cut by May 5th, I'll update as we do more interesting things.
-------
In the pristine calm of a summer’s morn birds chirp and butterflies flit about the garden, flirting with the tulips. Two young lovers sit contently on a large grassy lawn sipping tea and gazing dreamily into one another’s eyes. In the distance a tiny speck soon becomes recognizable as a grabber yellow 1971 Ford Mustang Mach-1 351 Fastback , which promptly tears apart the dainty tea party and sends the duo running for their lives. Welcome to Velvet Lace, a short film where the graceful elegance of Jane Austen is merged with the over the top designs and style of the 1970’s. Bartleby, a young tax collectors assistant, is desperately in love with Ms. Darcy, the most sought after woman in all of England. However, Bart soon finds himself faced with stiff competition when Antonius, a wealthy brothel owner, comes to claim Darcy’s hand in marriage. Can Bartleby overcome insurmountable odds to win Darcy’s heart or will he forever remain a poor lonely dreamer?
Velvet Lace take’s several “traditional” storylines and infuse them with a new visual take on the genre, creating a hybrid of experimental and traditional storytelling to envelope the viewer in the spectacle of a decadent 70’s inspired Victorian love story. The style, dialogue and audio for this world will be based on the actual clothing, design and music of the 2 eras. The project seeks to create an entertaining story while maintaining as much integrity as possible, creating visuals that one could have found if the time periods had actually coexisted. Complete with car chases, Sword fights, and several song and dance routines, Velvet Lace promises to provide a fresh take on a tired subject.

Here are some of the cars we are considering (make and model wise)
Good guy - Mustang Mach 1 Bad Guy-chevy manta ray

Finally did something with this project. It's due in less than a month and I still have a ton of filming and compositing to do. For now though I set up a website chronicaling the adventures of the "BurlyBuff" crew on " VELVET LACE"

I've lost the pics that used to be in this topic, sorry about that. Also, the project has been greatly scaled down to just the race sequence due to me grossly overestimating how much i could get done this semester.
