I see that you moved it around a bit. It looks good no matter what.

The thing dripping down her lip... you can leave that up to the imagination.

Armen, I'll PM you sometime tonight or tomorrow. I look forward to talking to you.

That is a good poster! I think it fits the film perfectly and the text is great...way to go Armen!

Thank you. That graphic design work I did in my spare time over the years is starting to get some attention.

Wow - this is all an interesting development.

My opinion - honestly, I saw the title of the film and the brief synopsis and thought "clever, but the title seems purposed to grab attention." But that's just opinion, and it should in no way discourage Mark if he's excited about the idea. I give it in hopes that it might help him in the creative decisions he has to make - it's criticism for the point of construction. Regardless of what I think, I'm glad Mark wants to make a movie.

Heck, we should all stop bashing each other and just go make movies.

NEVER SHARE YOUR PROCESS.

You are the only one who understands it, and therefore it's unlikely you'll be able to defend it to others.

You are going for shock value with the title. You are more committed to the title than anything else, from what I've seen. SO EFFING WHAT.

Make the dang thing and see if you end up calling it "The Heist."

Just make the film...and learn not to pout when people don't embrace your ideas...it's going to keep happening if you pursue this business.

Good luck.

J.

If anything, Warhol's title grabbed my attention. So, of course, if you saw a film called "Getting Head" you'd probably double-take. It's hard to ignore a blatant title. Warhol once had a film called "F--K" but renamed it "Blue Movie."

The opinions I've gotten on this forum have helped tremendously. As for me being committed to the title more than anything else? No, that's not true. I don't understand where you get that. Yes, that title is what made me want to make a movie with that same name, but I wouldn't had made a film had I not written a story I liked so much and that fit the title so well.

I probably won't end up calling it "The Heist..." it has nothing to do with heists. lol

Another thing is, I'm not pouting when they don't embrace my idea. I'm simply stating my opinion. And in response to the NEVER SHARE YOUR PROCESS line, Jayimess, I am sharing my process because this is the Student Filmmakers Diaries. That's what it's for and I think it's fun to post the info about my movies, as well as interesting to read what everyone else is doing and has to say.

Mark as you make progress on this film and want to share it with everybody, I would suggest starting a new thread just so we can talk about your work without all these distracting misunderstandings and petty arguments that have developed around your project.

But definitely make this film, and keep us updated on your experiences...and regardless how the final project turns out, you can't make a film like this and not learn something that will help you in the future.

I know you're on the defensive, and I guess I understand why, but I'm not going to bicker with you, dude. I was trying to encourage you, say Hooray, but apparently you only see what you see.

Whatever.

And by "Never Share The Process," I meant the "where did this idea come from" part of it, not a filmmaking diary. Nobody understands how another's creative process manifests itself, often the creator themselves. You say the title inspired you to write a film with the same title that had nothing to do with fellatio, and the peanut gallery exploded. They don't seem to respect your process, but the thing that matters is that you wrote a dang script, not how it started.

You don't seem to respect their opinions, because it's your process, and you don't know how to explain it in a way that doesn't make it seem like you're sprung on the title...because if you did know how, there wouldn't be several pages of multiple people misinterpreting your attempts to explain said process.

So, again, my advice was...don't share your internal creative process, because nobody's equipped to comprehend or defend such a unique occurrence.

More importantly, nobody should have to.

You do realize we're commenting on a film called BLOW JOB, and that the poster is a close up of a woman's mouth with what is most likely semen on her bottom lip? I suppose I should have said "It looks like semen from a penis", in all fairness, but I think once we've gotten this far we're beyond the silly "PG" rule.

JAYIMESS:

Nah, I'm not bickering. I'm just stating my opinion as well. I appreciate the encouragement. And I do respect people's opinions... It's a forum, words are nothing like actual language (obviously.) Getting a point across with text is hard, as has been proven.

I guess what should I expect with a title like "Blow Job?" Haha. This should be fun.

Well you better make this film good, because you've got a dozen people here that are interested in seeing your project...

...and another dozen people that want to see your project just to have grounds to tell you that they were right all along :P

Studentfilms.com - Film snobbery at it's finest.

Haha, this is quite the entertaining thread. Keep at it and I will be very interested to see your finished product. I think some people have definitely overreacted in their comments about your title - and I have a sneaking suspicion that several of those people aren't even working on their own projects (just a hunch) - but I will say I agree with Jayimess that you probably would've avoided this by not actually saying that you got the title from a Warhol film. But either way, best of luck.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I can't wait to get begin, hard-core, working on this film. I've been studying composition and have learned a lot. This will be the first film I make that I won't decide what the camera will be doing at that instant I need to film... I'm not necessarily going to storyboard but instead I will plan all camera movements/placements.

I have also found another actor, making the casting process even more difficult. I will post more once things develop!

Talk about "snobbery"... And what does that even mean, "aren't working on their own projects?" Give me a break; this is a filmmaker’s site. The majority of people that have stumbled onto this board are at the very least, in concept, "working" on something ("just a hunch"). The difference is, some people don't feel the need to seek out other's approval while "working" on projects, and others are simply scared off by the idea of having their entire project boosted off an internet site. Wink

The only overreaction that has occurred on this particular topic, which has traveled entirely away from anything that has to do with this person's whatever, comes in the form of people who do not take kindly to legitimate criticism, even when asked for. I hope this film gets made, and successfully. What reason do I have to wish otherwise? When did I, or anyone else for that matter, ever suggest otherwise? Nobody should be so frail in their self-esteem that they junk out a project just because a few people gave a form of unexpected criticism. How would anything ever get made???

50 some odd posts already, and maybe three have anything to do with anything relevant to an actual story... That was my original point. No overreacting. Just honesty.

Best of luck to you, Mark. You will probably find, on your own, that your title will change 3 times before you ever even pick up a camera. Either way, I have nothing but respect for your ambition, and hope you follow through with what you've started. Make the damn thing. Let's see it.

I wouldn't say the "only overreaction" to this thread is Mark, ToThePoint (that is what you're implying?). The whole title business has been blown way out of proportion (if you'll pardon the pun).
