So I had to postpone an earlier proejct of mine and start "El Asesino" (The Assasin), a short film that is currently in production. The movie is based on a story we read in Spanish class about a murder labryinth, and will have elements of noir, mystery, and thriller. I'm shooting it for a final grade in AP Spanish, meaning that all the dialogue is in Spanish, which severely increases the workload/shooting time. This past Saturday we shot a train station scene, which is a good chunk of the script. Here are some grabs from footage I've already uploaded:
Give us some dailies! Looks good....hey....is the story called Sala de Espera by chance? Cause M.M. Rempen and I did the same thing with a spanish murder story 2 years ago.
I can't remember the name of the story in Spanish, but the translated title is "Death and the Compass." The film is a continuation of that story, which is a shame because I would love to do a more complete film, but since i'm pressed on time (finished film is due in two weeks), we can only do a short continuation (should be about 6-7 minutes). I tried to write the narrations as to create a solid foundation and fill in the audience as best I could. Either way, I'll be working round the clock to get this thing finished, so I'll definetly keep this updated with new entries and stills.
Saturday 5/20
Arrived at train station at about 10 AM, and wrapped shooting at about 1:30. Station was empty for the most part, but we did have some observers here and there. Had a short run in with a guard that got off an incoming train, who made me shut off the camera after I got a shot of the train pulling into the station. He was cooperative, and told us we could turn the camera back on as soon as the train pulled out.
I was still recording when one of the doors slid open and a guy on the train immediately came off and told me to shut the camera off. I think they probably saw me set up with the camera as they were pulling in, because the train seemed to be coming in much slower than the other trains.
Legally you're fine filming the train from public property, but chances are you're not fine setting up a tripod on the platform (which is public property, but most likely has a permit requirement)... so that was a good compromise for you

That kids great. Can't wait for this and the comedy short especially. Good luck on both.

My time to finish the project has been cut SEVERELY. My Spanish teacher informed me today that we'll be the first group to present THIS tuesday. I currently have 1:10 of edited film, and I'm expecting the finished product to be 6-8 min. We still need to shoot about 1/3 of the movie, maybe even more, and have it fully edited for tuesday. This means intensive shooting on Saturday, and editing all weekend long. As if the situation wasn't bad enough, I still can't import audio correctly in Vegas, so I'm importing the video, and importing the audio seperately in a different program through my USB cable. It's taking FOREVER just to load footage and audio in, and then sync the two together. I'm hoping I can get it all together for Tuesday, but I can't help but think this project will have some flaws considering the short time I have to complete it. I think that I'll get a full score done for it after the showing for Spanish class.
We wrapped tonight at about 11:30 after 3 1/2 hours of shooting. I'm very happy with the footage we got, and I'll try to get some more stills up tomorrow. I've got a lot of work to do between now and Tuesday, but it'll be ready.
When all is said and done, I'm hoping to reshoot a few things, rerecord some bad audio and get an orginal score before I send it to studetnfilms.com.
After an extremely stressful/sleepless weekend, I finally finished editing the film Monday night at about 11:30. I rendered/burned the DVD for my Spanish class, didn't go to school, but heard today that it went very well.
The cut I made has some rough spots, however. Need to fix up some messy audio, reshoot a few shots at the train station, and tighten the editing up in general. I'm also looking to get a full score done, although I may keep a song or two that I already have in there. Any composers looking for a decent sized project (about 11 min) can P.M. me or leave a message here. I'll probably start a seperate thread as well.
