I think it means helping or being helped in terms of the world of filmmaking, and the thousands of people at this site who wish to pursue it. Many people come here to be steered in the right direction as an aspiring filmmaker, and I like to think I'm here for that reason. To me, the career of filmmaking is like a long road trip. Of course, everyone has to navigate the backroads before they get to the freeway, and I think studentfilms.com is a valuable way to help you get there.

Ditto that!
I believe that there are no rules to filmmaking, only guidelines. (some should be followed more then others). Here we discuss the best guidelines and how we each manuever within those guidelines. Like has already been said, we may not always agree, but we're in it together.

Studentfilms.com has had a host of different meanings over the last few years. In the beginning, I found a small site that hosted student films that would host my short film. What a novel idea! I can have my film shown around the world! However, as the years have passed ('The Body' has been on this site since 1999?) and the fact that I have a short film online doesn't have the effect it used to. I've often considered having the film taken off the site because I didn't want to think about my short anymore. I was over it.

Now that I'm a professional in the industry I really don't have a heck of a lot of time to watch all the films like I used to. But I've decided that I'll keep my short film to support this site as long as possible. This site is important. It's an extension of your film school where you can have your film viewed and reviewed. This is the place where you learn to take criticism (both constructive and otherwise) from people who don't care about your feelings.

Studentfilms.com to me, is no longer about showing off my film, but contributing in some way to help make sure that this site never goes away and ensuring that student filmmkers have a voice.

this has nothing to do with the post except that its studentfilms.com related and i couldn't find anywhere else to post it.

what happened to the "new posts since my last visit" option that was on the top right before you upgraded the forum? i cannot seem to find it and without that option, it is much harder for me to look through discussions i find interesting since now i need to go to each forum to check. please bring that option back.

maybe i'm being dumb but...

i go to "my space", the closest thing to "my pop" that i can find, select "whats new" and it only shows new messages in threads i have posted in. is there a way to see all new messages posted to any threads since i last logged in?

I'm pretty sure that you have to go to each forum's page and click the "notify" button to add it to the watched area in the What's new page.

It seems complex and I'm sure there's an easier way to do it like before. I just haven't found the option yet.

I am a composer and have found your forum very resourceful in finding contacts and networking.
Have you ever considered having a directory? You could have a list of "who's who" i.e.Directors, Producers, Composers, Cameramen, Actors, etc. Just an Idea.

That is actually a really good idea. I never thought of that before. I'm going to talk to Chris about that.
