waiiiiittttt what about those of us with no access to composers or an original score.... will our films suffer in raitings for using non original music?

If I watch two student films in a row and I notice that both of them use the same soundtrack, chances are I'll mark both of them down in the music category. You don't have to use original music, just be discreet about it.

ok thanks... i hope everyone feels that way... and of course if you do put a lot of effort into composing an original score you should recieve due credit... however some of us got into film because we're musically challanged

I agree with other posters that it is a great change to the review system here.
But, I also agree with the minority that is should have just been labled "Sound". That way we rate not only the soundtrack, but the effects and vocals and everything as a whole. It just makes more sense.

im not sure about this new rating. i submitted my movies a few weeks ago, but they havent been posted, and im afraid that when they are, people will not rate me very highly on my music. one of my movies is pretty much a horror movie set to the themes of the famous horror movies that influenced the movie. people may not understand that and rate me poorly.

I think that anyone who uses the forums can find several composers on this site alone. There seem to be more composers than directors.
As a composer, I like the idea of having a film score category because people realize the importance of an "original" soundtrack.
I say anything that you recognize should be marked down. Nothing sounds more ameturish than having Terminator/Saving Private Ryan/Pearl Harbor/Band of Brothers etc. playing in the background.

well i notice you're from san diego (and i completley envy you for that) my point was out here in oley valley pennsylvania, between the soy farms and the dairy cows, its not easy finding a place to buy dv tapes let alone meet composers... are you saying that it would be possible to meet and work with a composer entirely online? that'd be cool
