I've decided to morph the Summer Short Film contest idea into a new thing on Studentfilms.com called "Homework".
Basically the idea is, every month or two there will be a new "assignment" that everyone can make a film on. There will no longer be a cash prize for the winner, just a free Studentfilms.com T-shirt and a free year of hosting for your film. There will also no longer be an additional contest fee to submit a film to the contest - just the normal $10 hosting fee.
This way there will always be people competing to make films on a certain topic and if you're having problems of thinking of ideas - well we'll think of them for you!
The first Assignment is:
"How Bob and Nancy got together."
The film must follow these requirements:
The film must relate in some way to the above theme.
The film can be no longer than 5 minutes.
The film must be made specifically for this assignment and be original.
You must use royalty free or original music in the film. NOTHING copyrighted can be in the film - this includes footage that you don't have rights to.
You don't have to be a current student. Anyone can submit a film - as this is a "homework assignment" you are now in the school of Studentfilms.com.
The deadline for the contest is September 1st, 2007.

If you decide that's what you want to do. You basically get a free year of hosting - so you can use it towards another submission, or you can apply it to the film that won. But since I'm being generous - a free year of hosting could apply to any duration film so it might make more sense to submit a longer film for your free hosting.

Do the normal regulations for film submissions apply? For example the rules state that the films should have a resolution of 720X480, but I have been rendering my clips in 800X600. Is that alright And if you didn't see my above question, are these videos going to be compressed further after we submit them? Or this there a certain file size you are looking for.

Same way you submit a film to the site normally. See the Submission FAQ.

Yes - the same rules apply as normal films. And yes - once I get them from you at the DV res I'll add the Sfilms logo to the head and compress it to H.264, as always.
It's the exact same thing as a normal submission to the site - just everyone has a theme to make films on.
