MOONDANCER NEWS & LETTERS:

-It nourished my soul to be a part of Moondance last spring. I loved being
there in your healing and beautiful environment. - Betty Nelle Garner, Santa Fe,
NM

MOONDANCERS UNITE! -Recently I was introduced to a very interesting French
screenwriter, Ms. Pascale Rey, here in LA. As we discussed our various writing
projects, I mentioned that my script, "Lucero's Angel", was a 2003 Screenplay
Finalist at Moondance. Imagine my surprise, when Pascale said that she had
been a screenplay Finalist in 2000 at Moondance. It was a very lovely moment of
a bond we two strangers share. I was not surprised to find Pascale an
intelligent, highly creative and committed writer since all the people I have met
that participated at Moondance have been of that caliber. I am currently in a
joint writing project with Anny Slater of Australia (Finalist, Best Short Film,
"The Ball") and Ann Langely of England (Finalist, Feature Screenplay, "Ice
Woman"). Additionally, I am engaged in a children's project with Lorraine Weeze
(Finalist, Best Annimated Film & Children's Story). I continue in close
contact with the girls from Germany, (Finalist, Short Film, "Relations") Manu,
Gabrielle, & Jessica, as well as Sharon Hamilton-Getz of Projects of Harmony &
Peace in NY (all are Moondancers---EE.). I look forward to Moondance 2004. All
my best to you, and your staff. - Lola Martin Balaguer

-I wanted to let you know that winning the 2003 Seahorse Award Film Score
(for "Seasons") jump-started my project. As soon as I got it, an award-winning
director appeared through recommendation, and David Taylor, founder of David
Taylor Dance Theater agreed to choreograph and perform the ballet. Filming begins
next week. Thanks for all your encouragment, help and guidance. - Gus
Nicholson

-"The Measuring Stick" is one of 10 Roy W. Dean LA Video Grant award
finalists for 2003. A Harry Tucker film in association with Unfolding Story Pictures,
"The Measuring Stick" will illustrate in a 10-minute documentary-style noir,
how economically and environmentally biased standardized school test questions
unfairly favor the affluent over disadvantaged elementary school children.
Moondancer, C.G. Zarbock will direct and produce. KT! Eaton is director of
photography. Production is scheduled for October 2003, in the Denver area. - Carol
Zarbock

-My short story "Rattlesnake Heart" was a Moondance semi-finalist a few years
ago. I’ve written short stories, stageplays, screenplays, children's books,
songs, and many magazine and news articles. Upcoming books include THE HORSE
CARVERS (Holiday House), CITY OF SNOW (Walker, fall 2004), and a young adult
novel SISTER SLAM, TWIG, AND THE POETIC MOTORMOUTH ROAD TRIP (Bloomsbury, fall
2004).- Linda Oatman High www.lindaoatmanhigh.com

- My play, "On the Edge" (the final years of Virginia Woolf) will be produced
at Theatre 150 in Ojai, CA, May-June 2004. It was a finalist at Moondance
this year. - Cathrine Ann Jones
(Cathrine Ann Jones is an award-winning playwright & screenwriter whose films
include Unlikely Angel (Dolly Parton), The Christmas Wife (Jason Robards),
and the television series, Touched By An Angel. For info on her workshops:
www.wayofstory.com

- Robin Rice Lichtig's stage play, HUMANS REMAIN, a Moondance finalist last
year, was one of eight plays chosen (from almost 1,000 worldwide) for a
residency at The Lark Theatre in June. The play received a public reading as part of
The Lark's Playwrights Week in New York.

-"Tangerine Dusk" by Ted May & Larry Nestor, Moondance 2003 Seahorse winners
for best libretto, enjoyed a staged reading August 30 at the North Shore Hotel
Ballroom in Evanston, IL. The fine cast, led by Jared Leal as Frank Sinatra,
wowed the capacity audience with their renditions of the twenty original
songs.

-Elizabeth, We met at Moondance 2003. You helped me with my log line for a
romantic comedy, "Maybe In My Next Life". I then sent out queries, got a bunch
of responses, sent out about 30 scripts and Little Studio Films wants to talk
to me about representation. Thanks for your help, Doreen Orion

-Check out my book, "Land of the Free": www.zeus-publications.com for my
latest (and soon to be best-selling!!) book (and I hope blockbuster movie, too!).
This book is being released in early October in Australia to coincide with a
major television exposé on this subject that should air in October/November.
It's "Born Free" meets "Mission Impossible" and based on actual events. This
book is dedicated to the "Mother Theresa of Animals", Meryl Harrison - twice
awarded internationally for her bravery in conserving endangered wildlife. – Lyn
Santer 2003 Moondancer

-Moondancer Michael Conti announces: We are invited to screen our short film,
"Losing Julia" (premiered at Moondance 2003), at Rock Island in Denver on
November13th. I had a screening there last year. It is one of the venues in the
Denver that screens locally made short films, and is a hip place to be.

-Just thought I'd let you know that I've recently started marketing my
digital audio editing/sweetening capabilities in addition to composing. I feel the
mix (pun intended) of both skills could fill a profitable niche for those
interested. Feel free to pass the word around to directors. - David Wohl (winner
2003 MIFF film score) dbwohl@comcast.net

- Boulder Moondancer, David Tresemer's play, "Darwin in the Dreamtime", a
touching drama of discovery and forgiveness, explores how the evolutionist's
theories have shaped our culture, and is being produced locally at the Nomad
Theatre through November 2nd. Congratulations, David!

- Australian, Annie Slater writes about her short film, "The Ball", which was
a finalist and screened at Moondance 2003: The Ball has qualified for
nomination in the 2004 Academy Awards in the best live action short category and
been shortlisted for the American Film Institute Awards Festival. L.A. talent
agency ICM and actress Judy Davis have requested a copy of the film, as have
French director Luc Besson for possible inclusion in his feature length shorts
compilation called Deux Zero.

- York Entertainment, an established U.S. film distribution company is
looking to acquire new movies and are interested in considering films that are
participating in Moondance. - www.yorkentertainment.com

- Since being named a finalist in the 2002 Moondance short story competition,
I have received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and a California
Artist fellowship. My first novel, "Sleep", is under contract and slated for
a spring 2004 release. -Kat Meads

- My goodness, what a great organization! Thanks to Elizabeth English for
creating a place for women filmmakers to be celebrated. As a woman working (and
sometimes not) in Hollywood, I'm disappointed I haven't heard of Moondance
before this. You can be assured I will get the word out -- and participate
in your community. I'm going to send in my script for your (festival)
consideration. It has gotten me in the door with some good agents and producers, but
the "consensus" of the boys is that my female lead -- and period piece no
less!! -- is a nice sample but not something they want to make. Actresses
complain that there are no wonderful parts written for them but their boy
representatives don't ever give them the chance to see what is conceived especially and
specifically for them.- Meehna Goldsmith
