Hey thanks for the tutorials. Even though I don't use Avid they're interesting to see what you can do with it and how it works. Keep up the good work Chris!
Chrsi, does Avid certification hold anyweight if you don't have that much experience on a certain system?
For example, if I have Composer experience, but none with Newscutter, does getting Newscutter certified really impress anyone, or would they rather see a work history using Newscutter?
Oh, and I'm asking about the LA market.

Hmmm... I don't know. I'm sure if you're trying to get a job that requires Newscutter, and the only way to get Newscutter experience is to get certified through an Avid class - then I guess that's the way to go.
But now that I think of it - I'm not sure if there is a class for Newscutter. I'm an official Avid Certified Instructor, and I've never heard of Newscutter classes. But then again - I've never even used Newscutter.
I do hear that it is similar to Avid Media Composer.
Yea I can do everything they're asking for, except Newscutter. It's actually for a company up here, but they base everything off LA standard since that's where the headquarters is.
I don't know anyone that's used Newscutter either, but that's one of the things they ask for, 1 year experience. I went looking through the Avid site and found:
quote:
The program
This program thoroughly covers the core operational functions of the Avid Media Composer, Avid Xpress Pro, Avid NewsCutter, or Avid DS software. In-depth knowledge regarding media capture, editing, effects, media management and output options will be tested. Only those who demonstrate substantial proficiency in operational “know-how” will be officially recognized by Avid Technology and awarded the title of Avid Certified User. Benefits of certification include:
* Inclusion in the Avid Certified User (ACU) Database * Official Avid Certified Operator Certificate
