I'm thinking of entering, sounds fun. There is going to be a DVD of the best right? Well, isn't that weird if there is going to be only one winner? Are you going to give out additional prizes or are they just going to be honorary mentions?

The DVD thing depends on hwo many films are submitted probably.
I think what Chris said was that their would be a site voting of the best ones. Those would be considered "the best films" then a panel of judges would decide teh ultimate winner.

Well...it really depends on how many films submitted. If all of the films submitted will fit on one DVD, I'll put them all on a DVD.

If not, I'll put the best ones as voted by the filmmakers.

There will only be one grand prize winner, but probably 4 or so honorary mentions or runners up.

I'm afraid I have to drop out. I was going to use soundFX where I don't have the rights for.

I will probably still finish the video for myself.

Can't you find sounds you CAN use? Or make your own? Smile

You mean Sound FX from a sound fx cd? Then you have the rights to them. If you buy a CD for sound fx then you can use them.

I don't want to make this production too big. It's the very first short film I'm going to do and I still have to find out what I'm capable of and everything.

So, I decided to use some soundFX from the game Max Payne (2). I emailed Rememdy if I could use them and they said they didn't have the rights to give me the sounds for this purpose.

Anyway, I did some test effects and it sounds really cool. And because I use several different effects to simulate for example one punch, it's going to be a hell of a job to make the sounds myself.

I will probably make my own sounds if I seriously go to compete at some film festival.

So, if you guys know some quality soundFX that are totally free, then I would really like to hear about it. If stuff like this is very hard to get for free, then I'm afraid I'm going to make the video for myself.

Good luck on your projects.

All right Chris, here we go:

My friends and I sat down for a little meeting. We all agreed that what we have been doing for the past 2 years is what we are best at. Me as Director, him as editor, him as foley artist, her as make up, her as camera operator, so on and so forth.
However, you said that we can submit only one film per filmmaker.
Would it count if each one of us PRODUCED our own, did all the planning and the such, but everyone got the credit where credit was due?
So, essentially, all our films would say directed by me, but the producer would be different for every one. Am I being clear, or do I need to elaborate? Sometimes stuff makes sense in my head, but when I say it people have no idea what I'm talking about. Smile

Only one director per film submission and a director can only submit one film. Sorry. Rules are rules. Smile

That's not to say that you couldn't "direct" or have a major role in another film, just not be listed as "director" on the submission.

No - but you could list yourself as producer. There can't be any co-directors.

This sounds like something I would definately want to be a part of.

Stupid question, though :
Does "postmarked by June 1" mean it has to be in the mail at that time, or do you have to have it by then?

Also, why is it that when I tried to sign up I kept getting an error because this area is "not valid"? Are you afraid of Nova Scotians? Ouch. I'm gonna lose sleep over that.

Postmarked means in the mail by then but it has to have a postmark, or official date put on it by the post office to prove when you sent it. If you're in Nova Scotia you may want to send it sooner than that, to be safe, cause it could take a while.

Thanks, I'll probably send it quite early. I don't want to miss out Smile

One more stupid question before I convince everyone I'm hopeless -- $20 American is how much Canadian? I've never understood that, exactly.

Postmarked by June 1st just means that the post office has to stamp it by June 1st (ie - it gets mailed by June 1st)

As for Nova Scotians...I'm not sure what was happening there.
