Chris, you mentioned music, but there's all other sorts of things that could get you in trouble if you distributed it without getting the proper permission. Talent, trademarks and trademark-able locations, certain hand props (i.e. maps), paintings/artworks, etc. I'm you already know this, but I thought it's worth reminding anyway. We recently got sued by a Map company for using their map in a project. So they're out there watching.

I think I mention somewhere in the submission form where one signs that they have gotten permission to use all material in the film...not just music.

And Tanner...please...requesting there not to be nudity or excessive swearing is NOT censorship.

Does it have to exactly hit the 5 minute mark or is there a margin of (for the lack of a better word) "error"?

So, lets say theres 5 seconds of black before and after the movie, but the movie itself was actually 5 minutes. You wouldn't count the black would you?
(I only ask, because I got disqualified once in a contest because of that Frown)

thats a good question forsaken. ive often wondered that when i submitted my stuff to festivals, so i just make it under the mark by 2 seconds just to be safe.

also, chris, does it actually have to a road, or can it be based around a painting or photo of a road, or a toy, for hte lack of a better word.

Of course I wouldn't count the black. Smile

I count from first frame of picture or sound until the last.

It has to include "a road", so yes - I guess a painting or photo will be ok.

How many people are submitting a film? Just curious. I'm anxious to see the first films. Smile

I can't promise - but I REALLY want to. Mine won't be in until the day of the deadline though, I'm just like that.

I just thought up a question:

can my friends and I all sumbit on one tape? We will clearly define where one movie ends and another begins.

the movie can be under 5 minutes right? I also would like to participate, but i might not get it done in time. I'm really bad about deadlines.

I don't set out to make "art" I just try to make something with a beginning, middle, end, and some characters...the art seems to come during the process.

I don't see how that could be a problem. Yes, you may submit on one tape - but the entry/hosting fee is still per film.

The movie has to be under 5 minutes. 5 minutes is the maximum duration.
