Question:
I've read all of the suggestions and here's your chance to vote for the theme of this Summer's Short Film Contest.

Same rules as before: 5 minutes long maximum and the film must deal with a certain "theme". The great thing is, this year YOU get to decide the theme - yes you - the members of Studentfilms.com!

So get out there and vote. I'll need at least 100+ votes before I'll finalize it - so keep those votes coming in.

As far as the DVD of last year's contest, I just onlined the master Digibeta this weekend and we should start encoding the DVD and making the menu's soon.

It's going to be an awesome DVD with commentaries by the filmmakers, behind the scenes footage, and of course - the amazing exclusive short animated film "Adventures in Student Filmaking" by our very own Stephen Reedy which is HILARIOUS!

Anyways - onto the poll:

Choices:
An Emtpy Room
Time
A Guest
A Wish
Lost and Found

Actually - he didn't. Smile (or at least I haven't received it yet)

The original submission form for the contest actually gave permission for the DVD and the new one just gave extra special permission to appease the DVD house people.

I'm going ahead because we can't wait anymore - but PLEASE have him still SEND in the release form. And the release form for that awesome new t-shirt design as well.

I don't think we'll have a problem reaching 100 - there are almost 4000 members of the forums - not sure how many of those are active - probably a couple hundred at least.

As for a tie - we'll cross that bridge when we get there - I might just change the cutoff if that happens.

So "an empty room" would literally be, by definition, a room with nothing in it for the duration of the film, right?

yeah just figured it out
I'm still the future of film though. You know the good ones.
I find it hard to write a five minute script. I can't even put in my mind a quick and good story to last that long. Thus, I can't get to prewrite.

instead of thinking of it as a story, look at it as an experience

No - an empty room just means that your characters or your film has something to do with an empty room. An empty room has to work somehow with your story. For ex, people find an empty room, or they make a room empty, or the whole film takes place in an empty room, or all the characters can talk about can be empty rooms...

It's completely open.

However you choose to interpret the theme! That's the greatest part. Theres no right or wrong definition!

My vote is losing, I wanted "A Guest" Frown.

I'm glad to see that a lot of people are interested in the contest. Last year's turnout of 17 was great for the first annual contest, and hopefully we'll get a lot more entries this year.
