i saw this on another thread posted by tizzy and i was wondering how to go about doing it

"You should make all attempts to make your film and your presence known to distributors. You can do this by listing under the "In production" section of the trades (IE" The Hollywood Reprter, Variety) and by listing you film with Film Finders a publication that is sent to all the major studios and pretty much every distributor in the world. All of this is free BTW."

Ok, you can get listed with the trades by contacting "The Hollywood Reporter" and "Variety" and telling them you want to list your production. They should have a form they can e-mail/fax you to fill out and return. I havent yet listed with them because im waiting to see if a possible "name" gets attatched since the listing is sort of a one shot deal.

What I have done however is listed with Film Finders. Film Finders (which I believe can be found at www.filmfinders.com but if no google "film finders" and it will pull up their site) is a publication that every studio and distributor around the world subscribes to. They dont charge for postings since the subscriptions pay for it. They list over 5000 productions per month and cross refference by genre, budget, ect. Its not for short films though and you must have a proposed start date to post. You go to their site, download the form, fill it out and fax it back.

There are some things to be cautious about though. First if you have a small budget dont list it. Low budgets impress fand but give distr. Agents fuel to burn you out of a profit. A budget is important for listing though so list it as "Under $1,000,000". If a distributor calls interested just tell them the project isnt complete yet and that you will be ahppy to keep them posted and get them a copy of the completed film. NEVER show them an unfinished film. IE: without music, FX, ect) They will tyell you they can tell if its good or not without it but if they had vision they would be making films not stealing them from starving artists.

But im getting ahead. Just list it and go on about your business. If nothing else the info is out there. Good luck.
