Hey guys-
I'm about to start an Independent Study in Filmmaking for school. The idea is to make 2 very different movies this semester, with the first one finished in time for College applications. However, I'm having trouble picking which one to do first (and therefore which one I want to send to schools.)

Now obviously I can't really know until I've at least started shooting, but I wanted to get your opinion on these.

Film #1 is a romantic comedy, about 8-10 minutes long. There's minimal dialogue, but quite a few characters, sets, and props. The story is pretty solid and very accessible, but it's currently less thought out than film #2, as I had originally planned on shooting #2 first.

Film #2 is a dramatic piece, also 8-10 minutes. It's got lots of dialogue but only 3 characters. It would be much easier to shoot, but the story is not quite as easy to understand, and I must admit it's a bit of an "emo" student film cliche.

Film #1 contrasts with a lot of the other work I've done, where film #2 feels a lot like a bunch of other movies I may be sending out- very stylized and ever so slightly experimental.

So which would you suggest? NYU and USC both say story is the most important thing, and plus for variety's sake film #1 seems like the best option... but on the other hand, #1 will be a ***** to shoot and if I run out of time I'm sunk, and #2 certainly has a story; I'm just worried that it's one the admissions people have seen over and over again.

Obviously since I'm the filmmaker I have more info than u guys do, but I'm just looking for a few more opinions. Thank you so much!
